It's a good listen....particularly the very end, where America has become a crop importer, vs an exporter in the last few years.

Farmers say they are feeling the effects of tariffs imposed as the U.S.'s trading partners institute retaliatory tariffs.

Someone called me out today about not posting, so here's some of the pretty springtime farm photos! If you look closely, you'll see the lady bugs that always show up at this time of year! Citrus and Keiffer Pears are in bloom this week, and the mulberries are putting on fruit!

Those open space areas (public lands) we play around in outside of Phoenix are multi-use and include wildlife and cattle. Surrounding multi-use public lands also serve as a watershed for the Phoenix Metro area. This watershed is part of the water system that provides water for us. Native grasses that ranchers often reintroduce and certainly help manage slow rainwater and filter it instead of creating erodible areas that take soil with it.

It's hard to watch the cities paving over all the cooling green fields so fast, and then watching them cry that we are getting hotter every year without shaking our heads.
With another hot week in the works, farmers are working hard to adapt and change to heat tolerant and low water use crops. Baby Cara Cara Orange trees are braving the heat well and I'm looking forward to a new season!

Edit: The purpose of my post is more to show the resiliency and adaptation of farming in general, rather than lamenting the progress of the cities. Farmers sell out because it's more profitable and the kids don't want to take over, etc.

But the rapid growth and the willingness of city leaders to promote this extreme growth is having a negative impact on all of us that live here. Increasing heat index is just one of the many negative consequences.

That said, farmers are constantly adapting and changing to help feed the world, and the new baby citrus trees are a part of that and they are growing fast and looking good!
