Sometimes the progress on the homestead 🐄is so slow you can barely feel it. But then there are moments like these that remind you that progress is progress and every little bit counts. ❤️

And my children’s smiles remind me of what I am building and why!! 😄

A few of our successes:
A bountiful garlic harvest 🧄this year means that I won’t have to buy seed garlic for next year—yay!!

The native plants and bushes 🌳🌿that I have faithfully tended for the last three years are beginning to produce. We shall have enough elderberries 🫐this year to make our own elderberry gummies for this winter. Winning!!

A much needed update from Happy Bird:
1) there are so many flowers. Even unattended (because of Timbernook - Northeast Kansas ), our flowers have grown so much this year!! Zinnias, sunflowers, celosia, brown-eyed Susan’s. So fun!! Peter loves to smell them and destroy them (and everything else).
2) we baked a pumpkin pie with David’s first pumpkin. Spectacular success!!
3) we got our bikes replaced by Cycle Works after the fire. Annabel is fast!
4) flowers…..🌺 🌸
5) Dominic has trapped a myriad of animals this summer oy!! 😂
6) Jacob grew two cantaloupes!! He also dirt bikes and hints and sings. ❤️
7) dear family and friends have visited!!
8) Keith and I are rolling along life with smiles in this crazy ride!!
9) Kenny is dirt biking and playing the piano. An interesting combination!! ❤️
10) so, so blessed. 👍

So much beauty, love and happiness around here, that one post can barely contain it all!! ❤️Our newest venture, Timbernook - Northeast Kansas 🍃🌱🌳kicks off on Monday. The kids have been super helpful, focused, and wonderful in these past two weeks and man—it has been amazing. We have been summer-ing like crazy at the pool and the lake and are so grateful for the goodness of the ☀️ and friends.

Follow us over Timbernook - Northeast Kansas for updates this week. Our woods is alive — and don’t worry there is even a flock of chickens out in the woods!! We are Happy Bird after all!! 😃❤️🐥🐓

Hey friends we had quite a Friday here at Happy Bird! A brooder lamp caught one of our brooders on fire and the wind made things accelerate very quickly—we lost the whole barn/garage and around fifteen birds and a pet rabbit. The animals losses are by far the hardest but we are grateful to report that all of our humans are okay. Keith caught the fire very early and I was able to call 911 immediately, otherwise I don’t believe our home would still be standing.

We are so grateful for the folks who were able to save our home and stop the fire.

We will take any and all prayers, good thoughts, and vibes as we get things cleaned up and safe for our human brood of six.

PS. fire is scary. Check your detectors, have fire blankets in the kitchen, be ready. Practice with your kids what you would do. Our kids thankfully followed my instructions when we knew we had to get away, but fire moves fast and there is zero time to think.
