EPA is taking an initial step toward regulating microplastics and pharmaceuticals in tap water.

The agency touted its new list of contaminants in drinking water as a MAHA win, but it could be years before regulations are established.

Because screws holding the toilet tank are made from iron or similar metals from the same family, if your water brings iron those screws are going to get rusted and leaks are more likely to happen sooner than later. My advice: Clean your water. Remove heavy metals from your water. It saves money and protect your family and your property. Period.

I don't want to scare anyone, but as a clean water advocate and a community educator, I truly believe that by being proactive and open minded water quality wise, we can reduce the chances of getting sick due to arsenic, radon and other contaminants.

You probably knows this. For the benefit of all here, I just want to remind you that if you are receiving well water into your house, there's a chance you may be receiving also arsenic. Proper testing will tell us. If anyone is interested, I can perform a basic well water test to detect the presence of arsenic. If it comes positive to arsenic then it would be necessary to bring a sample to a certified state lab to get more details such as levels, concentration, etc. (They will produce a final report. There's a cost)

Before you move to a new house served with well water (underground water), I strongly recommend to test it for this dangerous, odorless, and tasteless inorganic matter called arsenic.

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element that poses a significant threat to human health due to its widespread presence in the environment, affecting millions worldwide. Sources of arsenic exposure are diverse, stemming from mining activities, ...

💧 Water Systems & The Human Body — More Alike Than You Think.
Water distribution systems and the human circulatory system share something powerful in common: they both depend on clean, properly flowing fluid to function correctly.
Just as the body relies on blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to vital organs, homes, cities, and businesses rely on pressurized pipes to deliver water where it’s needed.
Both systems: • Function as one complete network
• Depend on proper pressure and flow
• Require clean pathways to operate efficiently
• Can suffer when buildup, contamination, or blockages occur
When circulation is compromised in the body, health is affected.
When water flow is compromised in a home or business, performance, safety, and longevity can suffer.
Understanding your water system is just as important as understanding your health.
If you’ve never checked the health of your water system, I offer a no-cost water evaluation. No pressure. Message me “WATER” and I’ll send you the details.

💧 Did you know this about your tap water?

Cities and towns are required to deliver potable water by EPA standards — and that testing applies at the treatment plant.

After water leaves the plant and travels through street pipes, unexpected things can happen:
• Main breaks
• Backflow incidents
• Emergency sewer discharges during heavy rain

Because of these unknowns, many families choose a whole-house water purification system for added peace of mind — so the water they drink, cook with, and bathe in stays consistent and clean.

If you’ve never checked the health of your water system, I offer a no-cost water evaluation. No pressure. Just information. Message me “WATER” and I’ll send you the details.

Recent tap water alerts included a DO NOT DRINK advisory for Chester, NH (nitrate), and a lifted boil order for most of North Adams, MA after main breaks. Always check MassDEP or your town's official site or your water supplier for current alerts.

Water alerts in Western Massachusetts vary by town, but recent issues include a Ludlow water main break (Dec 2025). For current alerts, check your town's official website (like Northampton's Alert Center), sign up for alerts from your local supplier (like Springfield Water & Sewer Commission's Everbridge system), or use the MassDEP database for official public health orders, as systems often have main breaks, pressure issues, or contamination notices.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates over 90 contaminants in U.S. tap water, categorized as microbial (bacteria, viruses), inorganic (lead, arsenic, nitrates, copper), organic (pesticides, solvents), radiological, and disinfection byproducts (like TTHMs).

Common concerns include lead pipes, PFAS ("forever chemicals"), E. coli, and disinfection byproducts, regulated via Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) to protect health, with sources ranging from natural geology to industrial runoff and treatment processes, and emerging contaminants like microplastics always being researched".
