Went out to the garden tonight to pick what was left. Gardening season is coming to an end here but we are so pleased with what we harvested. Standing there looking at what is still standing, I looked back at the months going into it. The preparation of the dirt, tossing rabbit poo to fertilize, planting seeds, watching small plants grow under your supervision, watering, watching, giving light, keeping those plants alive through the winter just to put them in the ground. I'm so proud to say that alot of these tomatoes & peppers were grown by seed by us. All this work to turn around & harvest to make a meal or can to preserve is an incredible feeling. We did that! Popping a lid is the most wonderful sound in the winter or going into the next year. Our kitchen table is now usable 🤣 This year was tough for some vegables but also wonderful for others. As of now the kitchen is still open for some last crops but will be closing soon.

Its ok to make mistakes:
I was up early & decided to can 💁‍♀️ In the process I wasn't really sure I wanted to attempt this again. The recipe called it Herbed Garden Marmalade. I renamed it cause its my recipe now & I can 🤣Let's back up weeks ago...
I attempted this exactly by the book. At one point I questioned the amounts but still kept going. At the end it just didn't look right but tasted good. It was soooo sweet that it took away from the herb & tomatoes.
Now:
I attempted again this morning but did my own measurements. Same ingredients tho. My goodness this stuff is exactly what I wanted!! Now I've been canning awhile & knew the rules & what makes it gel & etc.. if you are new to canning I wouldn't recommend changing alot of things up.
**Morral of the story**
Its ok to mess up! You can always try again. Maybe a different way or at a different time. As long as you don't give up. We all learn by mistakes. If we didn't make mistakes how would we learn? So I've decided to take what I canned before & make it into something else! Take this into your week.... knowing you can try things again & just because you messed up once doesn't mean you can't get it right. Happy Sunday yall! I'm going to church & thank the Lord for mistakes & pray I can always fix them if I just try again 😃

Canning season means hours in the kitchen. The vegetables don't wait on you or when you're ready... they only have a certain amount of time & you have to make it work to get the goods 🤭. So if that means canning 8 half pints on a Thursday night after you have worked 8 hours & cooked supper, fed animals, collected eggs, & washed a load of clothes then thats what is done. Its so worth it though. This is my inventory so far. Still working my way through cucumbers with this amazing sweet pickle relish 🤩 while canning tomatoes & salsa & Ro-tel. We enjoed a jar of this sweetness last night with brats. 😊 Happy Friday yall

I'm so excited & shocked! These are coleus plants. You usually see these as an annual plant in the summer. I have been reading that they can be an indoor plants also. Last year I had these & was so scared to try to propagate. Yall... look at these babies!! I currently have 5 babies growing & the momma is still thriving. These do not like full sun. They can burn & lose their brightness. I love how vibrant they are. If you grow them outdoors... put them under a covered porch that will get some shade especially in the late afternoon. They are thirsty plants 🤣 meaning they like to stay damp but not soppy. I water my Momma every day because she is outside. To get these to be full, clipping the tops off will get them to grow outward & not just upwards. You have to clip before they flower tho. The other 3 are still growing roots & waiting to potted. Let me know if you are interested. I'm selling these $5 plant. Stay tuned cause I'm propagating other types of plants too. 🪴 Happy Wednesday 💚

Succulent Spotlight
This is a Star Fish Snake Plant/Rockstar! This a rare snake plant that thrives in bright indirect light. It loves hot weather. It needs to be in 80-90 degree weather & nothing under 70. This one needs to be watered just like all succulent. It needs to be bone dry all the way to the bottom of the pot. It loves neglect 🤣 In the winter it is only to be watered every 4-6 weeks due to going dormant. This is another California plant & I absolutely had to have it 😄 I also noticed when it came in that it had a baby growing in the front 💚

While it hasn't been a good year for tomatoes here..... it has been a wonderful year for peppers & cucumbers! Taking advantage of it today. Sweet pickle relish is soaking & will be canned later. I forgot I had a Ball recipe book & found a couple of more recipes I can try. August is canning season here & it involves hours in the kitchen but its sooo worth it. 💚

I was out feeding animals tonight & noticed something that stood out. I took these pictures as I got closer. This holler is where I threw the old sunflower heads last year after I thought the birds had cleaned them. After looking closer at the flower I noticed another one getting ready to bloom. Walking back up the hill a thought came to me: I threw those out in a holler of weeds & it still found a way to grow, stand tall & be beautiful! So here's my thought in the real world prospective from a flower...
If you think you're lost in this world or think you've thrown your life away or felt unwanted..... Just know if you weather through the storm you will eventually be noticed or rise again. You have to have faith. Look how beautiful this little sunflower is among all the tall weeds. 💛 Its small but standing tall & beautiful. Happy Friday yall 🌻

Some think you have to grow herbs in a garden. If you know the root systems & lighting care you can grow them in pots. This also keeps a plant from getting out of control & being invasive. This is oregano & its growing beautifully in a pot on my side walk 😆. We grew alot more herbs this year instead of flowers. We are currently drying alot & can't wait to use them. Oregano is a slow start to get going if you plant by seeds. This took a month to get to this stage & we have been snipping to dry already. It loves to be trimmed. The more you trim the more it grows. So go ahead & garden in a pot! Gardening is not just ground work. Happy Tuesday 🪴

Requires strong morning indirect light. The light keeps the pink tips. If it doesn't get enough light it will turn completely green. It likes the soak & dry method of watering. In the spring it can develop a small flower. Isn't it pretty!
