Crop Check… and watching Mother Nature keep us on our toes.

Emergence is one of those stages where everything matters.. soil temp, moisture, and timing! So that’s what we are doing right now, is checking that seed after catching anywhere from 3.84 to 4.33 inches of rain across ground we farm. And now we enter that “wait and see” window for a lot of corn, beans, and greenbeans that were recently planted.

A good rain helps..
but too much hurts just as bad..
it can result in:
• Crust the soil surface
• Limit oxygen to the seed
• Slow or create uneven emergence
• Increase risk of seedling disease

In farming, it’s rarely about perfect conditions, it’s about managing what you’re given.

Planting green beans under the lights tonight. It’s hard to believe what is going into these rows will be sitting on someone’s table by the 4th of July!

From our fields to your plate.. that’s what it’s all about!

A few weeks into planting season, and things are in full swing.

There’s something about this time of year.. the long days, early mornings, and the steady rhythm of getting crops in the ground, that never gets old.

It’s busy, it’s exhausting, but it’s also where it all begins.

Here’s to a happy & safe

He is risen… and the work still calls.

Easter on the farm doesn’t pause the responsibilities.. it reminds us why we carry them.

Jesus gave everything for us… the least we can do is show up, do our part, and serve in the ways we’ve been called. Today that looks like loading out hogs, boots on gravel, and getting the job done.

Local supporting local. That’s how we do it. Good luck this season, Ayres Racing!

We’ve been a little quiet on here… but don’t mistake that for slow.

The farm doesn’t stop and neither do we.
Last week we put in some work:
•Strip tilled canola on the home farm
•Tried some new waste/nutrient management options, using solid separation with our hog manure
•Sprayer fired up & rolling.. from burn down applications to pre-plant nitrogen applications, the sprayers are on the move.

Always looking for ways to be more efficient, more intentional, and leave things better than we found them.

Progress might not always be loud… but it’s always happening

We are proud to support the Lawrenceville Indians on their state title run!

This community, this school, and these teams mean so much to our family. JR and John both proudly wore the Indian uniform during their own time at Lawrenceville, and today Johnna and Sandy have the privilege of continuing that tradition by coaching cheerleading program and supporting the next generation of student athletes.

It’s pretty special to see the legacy come full circle.. from them wearing that uniform, to those of us standing on the sidelines cheering these boys on as they make history.

We couldn’t be more proud of this team, their hard work, and what they represent for our community.

From one generation to the next.

JR dedicated over 20 years to serving on the Lawrence County Farm Bureau board. Now Johnna will follow in his footsteps and continue supporting agriculture, education, and our rural community.

Lawrence County Farm Bureau is pleased to welcome three newly elected members to its Board of Directors. Nicholaus Benson, Johnna Thompson, and Jeffry Siegle have each stepped into leadership roles, bringing valuable perspectives and a shared passion for supporting local agriculture. Their willingness to serve helps strengthen the organization’s mission of advocating for farmers, promoting agricultural education, and supporting the rural community.

When the world slows to a standstill and the temperature drops to zero, the farm doesn’t stop. Animals still need fed. Roads & drives still need cleared. The work still gets done. This is the quiet resilience of farmers.. showing up when no one else can.

We’ve spent the last few days in Phoenix at the AgView Conference, and they have been exactly that…big-picture conversations about where agriculture is headed, paired with real, practical tools we can take home and use right now. From data-driven decision making and risk management to seeing how technology continues to support better stewardship, stronger operations, and smarter planning… it’s been eye-opening in the best way.

Grateful for the learning, the conversations, and the reminder that while we’re always planning for what’s next in ag, it’s just as important to pause, reflect, and appreciate where we’re standing today.

Grateful to Farm Credit for extending the invite to FarmCon 2026. John was able to head to Kansas City for one of the most forward-thinking ag conferences of the year!

FarmCon brings together farmers, ag-tech startups, investors, and industry leaders to talk real innovation.. profitability, digital transformation, AI, and where agriculture is headed next. Big ideas, bold conversations, and opportunities that we hope we can use to keep our farm moving forward.
