“Americans don’t pay for tariffs”

Says only liars.

Just paid $130 in tariffs on a commercial microgreen seed order of $200 from Canada. So sad. They are organic.

Farming doesn’t make most a living wage and add this on top of everything else at crazy prices and not raising my selling prices.

Pause and think where your food comes from, please.

Incredibly proud to be a farm that supplies fresh food to Camp Friedenswald as well as amazing partners and friends at Corey Lake Orchards.

It warms my heart when we work together to provide fresh, nutrient dense folks to our friends and family.

A letter from our publishers:

"We spent a week this summer at Camp Friedenswald, in the woods and lakes of Southern Michigan, less than an hour from our front door. It’s a family camp, with almost no technology, no notifications, no reason to check anything.

We didn't expect the food to be the part we remember most. Eric Emerson, the chef at Friedenswald, sources from farms around the camp with a diligence you'd expect from a restaurant with a much louder reputation, but none of the fuss. Meals arrived three times a day, made from things grown close enough to drive to.

We enjoyed the quiet that comes with a reprieve from technology forced by a remote location. We noticed the lake more and, for us, the opportunity to spend time with our kids. You notice that you're hungry in a way you haven't been in months.

By Thursday morning, the sky started to change. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires drifted down over Michigan, and air quality warnings kept us indoors for 24 hours. The lake was right there but off limits.

We drove home thinking about how the same week held a table of food grown within a few miles of where we sat and a sky full of something that started hundreds of miles north. We know our local farmers are familiar with this feeling around this time of year. Abundance and fragility arrive together.

That is more or less what harvest is. Not a guarantee, but a return on months of attention, weather permitting. In August, we get to eat the results.

So, a small ask for the season: Eat something grown close to you and know whose hands it came through. Then find one afternoon when the phone stays in the drawer.

Summer carrots are being harvested, washed, bunched and ready for use. Meanwhile fall/winter carrots are growing nicely!
Come get your bunches from the roadside stand or Kalamazoo farmers market this weekend. Both places will be stocked and ready.

Today’s egg collection process from a friend. Going to have a dozen or so dozen eggs at the Kalamazoo Farm Market tomorrow (Saturday) from 7 am to 1 pm.

Roadside stand is also stocked with eggs and many other things like lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, goat milk soap, maple syrup, honey, spices, vinegar, lavender, mushrooms and more!

Now on Tik Tok!!! Been a little behind as the latest platform we were on is FB which started in 2004.

So we are almost caught up on technology, lol.

Honey Extraction Day!

It’s a labor intensive process, but looks pretty neat and the taste is out of this world yummy!!!

Frames will go back in to boxes tonight for the bees to clean them up, then will be taken off tomorrow. This allows the bees to take any remaining nectar and use it as their work going forward this year is to prepare for winter.

Looks like we will end up with buckets of honey which we will package up and bring to markets and also sell at the roadside stand.
