Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

What a beautiful season to spend with family and friends as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. We loved hosting our annual employee Christmas parties at Vander Woude and Grand View dairies to thank our hardworking crews! Dairy never stops and we are grateful to have dedicated employees and owners that continue to care for our cows and produce the milk products you know and love through the holiday season!

During my internship at Vander Woude Dairy, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the interworkings of what a successful dairy should look like. I developed skills in administering medicines and vaccines, maintaining accurate records, utilizing modern dairy technology, and handling animals with both efficiency and care. I appreciate I had the opportunity to learn from the people who make the dairy thrive. The crew is extremely hardworking, welcoming, and dedicated. I am especially grateful to Israel for his patience and guidance, to Santiago for broadening my knowledge of breeding, and to Jeronimo for involving me in projects that allowed me to apply what I was learning. I look forward to carrying this knowledge forward as I continue pursuing a career in genetics or consulting within the dairy industry.

Happy National Dairy Month! Because this month highlights all things dairy, we want to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about our owners, Simon and Chris Vander Woude, and share some photos through the years! To read the full story, check out our website.

Simon is a third generation dairy farmer and married his wife, Chris, in 1994. Together they ran a 150 cow dairy operation in San Diego, decided to expand, and landed in Merced, CA. Through God’s provision, the two built the home dairy from the ground up alongside their parents and growing family. This dairy has grown from housing 1,200 cows in one free stall, to now housing 3,200 cows in three free stall barns along with a dairy heifer, beef, and farming operation. In 2015, they started Dutch Door Dairy in partnership with our herdsman, Jason Dores. In 2019, they added their third dairy, Grand View Dairy, which is currently run in partnership with their oldest son, William, and his wife, Alexa, as well as their son-in-law, Ivan Hoogland, and their oldest daughter, Aubriana.

Beyond running the dairy, Simon has served as CDI chairman, a CDI board member, Vice Chair of National Milk Producers Federation, a US Dairy Export Council board member, school board member, and has served as a church elder. Chris has stayed busy as a member of ag advisory boards, both at the high school and university levels, and she leads a local 4-H sheep group . Together they have raised up six children, with three in laws and one grandkid, all with the help of God!

Happy National Ag Day everyone! Thank you to all those who play a part in the dairy industry and the agricultural industry as a whole. Dairies are built up by so many physical components, but success is found with the support and dedication of every worker, business, business owner, and member in this amazing field. So as we celebrate agriculture today, we thank YOU for making a difference! We also want to thank our customers who are another huge part of our success. Thank you for drinking milk and milk products!! We are blessed to be able to produce these products to help feed the world!

“This summer interning with the hard working team at Grand View Dairy was the most rewarding experience of my life. Working under Javier’s wing as a herdsman was my favorite, learning ins and outs of herd health by proper diagnosis, treatment of health issues, and veterinary procedures were all inspiring experiences. I also loved learning about the many aspects and values that go into a successful dairy, through working with Ivan and Jose in breeding, working on maintenence and construction projects with William and Michael, and working with the talented crews at Grand View. I will always remember the values I was taught of working towards growth and innovation and having a keen attention to detail. Every day, I miss the work I was able to be a part of and the strong connections I made with the staff. I am looking forward to continuing my path in the dairy industry and Grand View Dairy has given me a solid foundation of skills and understanding in dairy farming and has deeply inspired my passion for this remarkable industry.”

K’ayum is now in his third year at Cal Poly, working towards a degree in Ag Sciences with a minor in Dairy Science by taking classes on herd management, consultation, and AI. He is also continuing his third year working at the Cal Poly dairy as an ag resident, practicing husbandry skills wherever needed.

Our website has gone under construction, and so have we! With new updates to our website and new construction on the dairies, there have been many changes in the past few years and what a blessing these new additions have been to the dairies! We are always trying to find ways to improve and become more sustainable, and the development of our businesses helps us reach that goal.

Woohoo! This ↓ is always one of our goals as dairy producers! Our team of employees work hard daily to keep our ladies healthy and well and to follow milking protocols to ensure the milk leaving our facility is clean, quality, and nutritious! 🥛🐄

→ Each load of milk is tested and approved for quality + cleanliness prior to even being unloaded at the processing plant
→ If we wouldn’t put it on our table, we wouldn’t expect or want anyone else to put it on theirs either
→ ALL milk sent to be packaged or processed is ALWAYS antibiotic free

DAIRY INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE// Are you a current or graduated ag student looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge of the dairy industry? Well lucky for you, we offer a paid internship where you could work alongside our employees while learning the multiple aspects of the day-to-day running of a dairy. The position centers around working in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, maternity, heifer management, vaccine administration, milking, genetics, tractor work, and additional help around the dairy. We are looking for someone studying or in the field of agriculture with a(n):

→strong work ethic
→open and teachable mind
→go getter attitude
→calm disposition around the cows

Nothing better than some fresh, clean bedding + some cool, refreshing sprinkles of water on a warm summer day! Happy Friday everyone!!
During the warmer months, we try to keep our cows cool and comfortable with large fans that give constant airflow + automatic soakers that turn on every 8 minutes to create an evaporative cooling effect. Comfortable cows are happy cows and happy cows give more MILK!!🥛

This 4th of July, we spent our morning/afternoon installing new stanchions in two more of our heifer pens at our Le Grand dairy! Swipe to see some of the work in progress and our finished product!..
These new stanchions will make sorting and treating our girls easier and more efficient.
