Schoenrock Family Cattle Schoenrock Family Cattle is located in rural Le Mars, Iowa. Phil is the fourth generation to farm this ground with his brothers.

It is owned and operated by Phil and Gail Schoenrock along with the help of their two daughters’ families. In the mid 1900’s, the Schoenrock family milked cows, ran beef cows, hogs, chickens, and horses. Phil began farming and purchased his first beef cows in 1972. It consisted of 20 Hereford cows. Phil also worked part time at the Sioux City Stockyards. It was there that he met Gail, who was a ba

nk teller in the Exchange Building. He brought the city girl to the farm and they settled into the home place in 1978. The farm at that time consisted of pigs, cattle, horses, and row crops and alfalfa. Their two daughters were brought up learning every aspect of farming. They were both members of the 4-H club Phil was a member of and then a leader of, and both Phil and Gail continue to be leaders of today. The girls showed cattle and sheep through their 4-H years and now participate in open shows and sales with their own purebred cattle as well as Phil and Gail’s stock. They both have their families actively involved in raising cattle, crops, and a few other species now! Through the years Phil has used AI and embryo transplant to develop his herd. Today the Schoenrock Family Cattle herd consists of around 100 head of Simmental, SimAngus, Angus, Shorthorn, and Commercial cows. If you know Phil, he loves attending cattle sales, watching the grandkids begin their show careers, and is always up for good conversation and a cup of coffee.

Our hearts are still aching, but we have felt the outpouring of love and support from near and far. There are not enough words to thank everyone that have picked us up as we are falling to pieces, brought meals, food, supplies, calls, texts, and visits. We have been lifted in your many prayers and it will carry us on as we figure out this new chapter. It has been humbling to see the many people’s lives our dad touched and hear the stories. Now it’s up to us to carry on his legacy! Dad’s services were beautiful and I know he was smiling down.

Our hearts are shattered…the man that taught us everything about faith, farming, cattle, and working hard, left us yesterday in his sleep. He was our leader, our safe place, and the best husband, dad, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend you could ask for! I can’t imagine what heaven was like yesterday…now he has a front row seat to every cattle show, rabbit show, and sale. Hopefully we can take what he built here and make him proud.

Picture day is complete and we are beyond blessed with a village of family that show up to support us! Thank you is not enough for the grit and determination everyone put in today on a long brisk day and those that helped clean up heifers the day before! And they even stuck around today to help move a group of cows home from stalks and do chores! Papa Phil was feeling good and took it all in from the pickup! I’m sure he’s excited to get the pictures back! We will post a sneak peek as soon as they are ready, but mark your calendars for sale day…Tuesday, January 6!
