Not only did we come away with some amazing shop local, support small finds, we also got the chance to meet some of the incredible people behind these businesses. Honestly, that was the best part of the day 😊

Mother’s Day is vastly approaching fellas

Oatka (O-AT-KA) is a term of Native American decent, meaning “leaving the highlands” or “approaching an opening.”

The Oatka Creek is also a body of water that runs through the heart of my hometown; Le Roy, NY. It’s where I grew up, it’s where I went to school. It’s where I learned how to play baseball, and it’s where I rode my bicycle for many years. It’s where I learned how to be a kid, and it’s where I learned how to be an adult. It’s also where I discovered my passion for cooking and spreading love through food. For such a small town, the streets of Le Roy are flooded with different places to eat. I hope to someday fill one of the restaurants with my own recipes, food, love, and laughter.

I can trace my love for food back to opening day of little league in 2002. It was a nice Saturday morning in April, I think it sprinkled in the morning but none of us cared because the greatest season of all was about to begin. I was 9 years old and the smell of the burgers and hot dogs on the grill, probably cooked by Mr. Rob Wortman is something I’ll remember forever.

When I was starting this business I was having trouble coming up with a name, but one thing I knew for sure was that I wanted the name to be meaningful to me. So I chose to name it after the place my parents chose to start a family and now it’s the place where I’ve started a family. Leroyans are proud people and with Oatka Blends Spice Co. I hope to make the people of my hometown proud.

If you haven’t checked out Oatka Blends yet, you’re missing out! They are a handcrafted seasoning and rub business that’s all about bold, fresh flavor—and it shows!

I made a whole chicken tonight for dinner using their “Lemon Pepper” rub, and wow… it was absolutely out of this world. It was a perfect balance of citrus and spice, and it brought the whole dish to life! I will have a variety of their seasonings/rubs available at the stand! There will also be a limited amount of free samples opening weekend (May 2nd at 9:00am) so be sure to hurry to the stand to grab yours!

Highly recommend giving them a try if you want to take your cooking to the next level! 😋

So many people have asked me about buying my spices and I apologize, I’m still just waiting on NYS to approve my home processing application. They said they’re expieriencing an influx of applications, but we’re approaching the 8 week mark so it should be any day now!! In the meantime we at Oatka Blends have had a lot of extra time to experiment with more flavors for new releases.
