What a joyful surprise and on my birthday today! Meet Cora our new Scottish Highland heifer born after the storms last night, about 6 AM this morning. Looks just like her mama. Both are doing fine. 😁

Coolest thing this evening putting everyone up on the croft. A Chuck- wills-widow has taken up residency for the summer near us. This Nightjar is similar to the Whippoorwill of which I have known in Texas growing up. Mistaken years ago, we had this bird in two other places near the coast where we lived. Since then, we have positively identified it correctly not as a Whippoorwill but Chuck. When we moved farther inland we were sad to think we would not hear it's night song. But for 2 years now we have heard it on the farm. You have to listen closely as to identify the similar call as they both are Nightjars. But they are distinctly different once you figure it out. The Chucks are also much larger. I once got a chance at a rare sighting and a poor photo in flight from a perch. These are rare and very cool birds. If you live in a heavy, piney woods area, listen at late dusk and evening and perhaps you will hear one. They are so camouflaged it is almost impossible to see one especially in daytime. Be still, listen, and track the tree line and perhaps one will fly by in search of a mate. (Photo from Audobon)

It's 15 minutes past sunset, 90 degrees, 90% humidity, and everyone else on the farm has put themselves up, except that ONE chicken who just stands outside the coop till the ever-loving last minute. And you be Like before you can go home down the woods road 😳🙄🤨😡🤬🥵🥴😵‍💫😵🥳

PLEASE support your local Food Bank. We just dropped off dozens of eggs. This cheap high protein source is much needed. I was appalled to find out that a Major national retailer/grocery chain with a sunny logo has cut egg donations by more than half, and that amounts to about 50 dozen eggs a month. It has impacted this major local small town food bank, supported by a national charity, so heavily that they have had to reduce egg rations to 9 eggs a week per family. This church based bank serves about 200 familes once weekly to a rural community. OUR donations EXCEED that national chains donations every month, and we are a super small producer. This is pure corporate greed. Corporations are extracting HUGE profits from YOU and it is creating higher inflation in our country. Greedflation is real and it is WRONG! If you don't know what it means to be truly hungry, you are Blessed. It can happen to you very quickly in unforseen events. States like Louisiana that refuse to take aid from the Federal government to feed hungry school children during summer and in school programs for political gain are WRONG! Every major religion speaks about feeding the hungry. Hunger must not be used as a political weapon. "Feed my sheep." It is not your place to judge or encourage denial of basic Human Rights to the poor and needy. Please speak out and help out with what you can. Americans are better than this--it is our patriotic and moral duty 🇺🇲. At Croft Rougarou we will ALWAYS do what we can to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Please Love Your Neighbor as you would yourself. Namaste 🙏
