Our small herd of milkers have just grown in numbers, well sort of. We have just brought up 3 girls up from the minor league (pasture). Actually, we have our girls trained so well during the milking process that they know the order that they get milked in and the holding pens that they go to in the morning and evening and it makes the process of milking them so much easier. We are adding 3 more does to next years group so we are going from 7 to 10, with plans to add 2 more next year. We will start breeding next month so we thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have them comfortable with the whole process long before we start adding bucks and hormones to the equation. We are welcoming Sriracha, Cayenne, and Basil to our milkers herd. They did great last night going to the barn but were a little confused this morning going back out to pasture but I know they will figure it out in due time. Our bucks Blu and Ancho are developing that nice ripe odor of rut and are anxiously awaiting their move into the girls pens in about a week. We are excited about the additions to our herd as well as the herd share program that we are starting soon. If you are interested in information on our Herd Share just contact us. Butcher day tomorrow, fresh chicken packaged and available on Monday. If you haven’t tried our pasture raised chicken, you just don’t know what you’re missing. True, it’s not as cheap as the grocery store. However, the chicken you buy in the grocery store wasn’t truly raised on pasture either. These birds have spend most of their 8 weeks of life on fresh grass everyday and supplemented with non- GMO feed manufactured right here in Lebanon, TN. We are raising chicken the way chickens are meant to live, foraging and growing in nature not a barn. Give it a try and find out why when people try it they all say it’s the best they’ve ever had. It’s that time again, baby chicks!!
We ordered 100 layers to replace some of our older girls that have really slowed down in the egg laying department. Unfortunately we lost quite a few in shipping but we will get that worked out as replacements should arrive next week. I forget year to year how small the layers are as we get broilers in monthly all year long. They are so cute though, as they start running around in the brooder, this is day 3, as they all hatched on Tuesday.

The morning ritual, everyone knows their place and the order in which they get milked. Smart and cooperative goats make milking time much easier.

Doelings are enjoying life in the mineral run in these day more than usual. This heat is keeping them in the shade as much as possible.
