We made our very first batch of biochar today!

Biochar is a carbon-rich substance made from burning wood in a no/low oxygen environment. It plays an important role in carbon sequestration; ensuring that the carbon stays in the tiny charred pieces of wood and goes back into the soil instead of buring off into the atmosphere.

This is just one of the natural fertilizers we use to add nutrients to the soil. We are super excited to be able to make our own!

I'm sure a lot of you have seen me out working in the fenced area the past month when stopping at the stand. I've been making a pond for the ducks! I still need to add more rock, a few more stone pavers, and overseed their entire area. Right now the ducks are in the areas of the garden and orchard that are done for the season. They are eating up all the bugs, flattening out the grass, and poopin' all over adding nutrients back to the soil.

Ever wonder why elderberry products cost so much? Removing the berries from the stems is a long and tedious process.
We will have 7 jars of elderberry syrup out this weekend that easily took me 3-4 hours to get all the berries cleaned up and ready.

📣 TWO BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS 📣

First: We will be closed NEXT weekend, August 28-30

Second: We have put it off as long as possible, but unfortunately the time has come that we need to increase the price of our bagels and cookies beginning Sept 1st. The reason being rising costs and difficulty finding some of our ingredients. We selected our ingredients carefully, making sure they are minimally processed whenever possible. This means that substituting ingredients is typically not an option.

Thank you all for your understanding. We will have lots of goodies out this weekend, including some lemon blueberry sourdough!
