Recent farm tour with guests from ATL. They got a real taste of the rustic life when we almost stepped on this beautiful little black snake crossing out path. It was lightly raining and yet oh so perfect watching Spring on the mountain.
Looking for a deeper connection to the land during your Southwest Virginia getaway?
Join us for a guided farm hiking tour at Breath of Dawn, our 35-acre educational homestead nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Russell County, Virginia. This approximately 1.3-mile guided hike takes guests from the mountain ridge down into Farmhouse Holler, descending nearly 323 feet in elevation before climbing back to the top. Along the way, you'll experience changing ecosystems, mountain overlooks, woodland trails, gardens, animal areas, and the historic heart of the property.
More than just a hike, this is an opportunity to learn about homesteading, small-scale farming, land stewardship, agritourism, animal care, foraging opportunities, and the ongoing vision for Breath of Dawn. Every season offers something different to discover, from wildflowers and pollinators to garden harvests, wildlife sightings, and sweeping mountain views.
Perfect for couples seeking a unique experience together, solo travelers looking for a safe and meaningful adventure, homesteaders, gardeners, hikers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys learning while exploring the outdoors.
Many of our guests travel from Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, Baltimore, Columbus, and Philadelphia to experience the slower pace, scenic beauty, and authentic mountain hospitality of Southwest Virginia.
