May has been an absolute whirlwind! From things not playing out the way we thought they would to the crazy weather we’ve had and everything in between it feels like we’ve just been playing catch up all month. Our motto this season though is ‘just keep planting’ and that’s what we’re doing. Spring might have been a little rough, but we’re still so grateful that we get to do this work together as a family and it’s going to be such a beautiful and bountiful summer!

As usual you can catch us at this Friday from 4-7 AND slight change of plans.. we’re coming back to and will be there this Sunday from 10-1! We’re so excited to be back at the station, and we can’t wait to see everyone there. Y’all come out and see us this weekend!

So excited to be part of a market here in Wilson County! Y’all come out and see us this Saturday!

It’s been a slower and quieter week on the farm, just tending to the plants and checking small tasks off the to-do list that seem insignificant now, but will make a world of difference come June. Mostly it’s been watering, weeding, pruning, laying down landscape fabric for the eggplants and okra, more pruning, more weeding, more watering.. so many tasks that will never actually find themselves being checked off the to-do list.

Bell peppers, jalapeños, cornitos, summer squash, zucchini, basil, dill, and cilantro all went into the ground last week and we’re really excited for all that to start producing. With the heat we’ve had this spring it already feels like it, but summer will be here before we know it!

This will be the last week we’ll have french breakfast radishes for a bit, but we have spinach ready to be harvested and it won’t be much longer until snap peas, carrots and cucumbers start coming in!

It truly is such a blessing to see the fruit of our labor and we’re beyond thankful for the support y’all continue to show us season after season. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU! We can’t wait to see y’all at tonight!

Nothing like the first harvest and market of the season to really put some pep in your step!

This past week Seth transplanted 512 heads of lettuce, transplanted and trellised 50 beefsteak tomatoes, trellised the snap peas, planted herbs, more radishes and turnips, laid the landscape fabric for peppers going in the ground this week, harvested for two markets (one that got cancelled, but .jenn at was kind enough to take everything off our hands) among many other tasks around the farm.

This season has looked a little different with Seth doing most everything on the farm by himself and me staying home with the boys most days, but the farm has honestly never looked better or been more productive and I’m so proud of all the hard work he’s put into it!

This week we’ll be back at (tonight!!) from 4-7 p.m. and Friday is opening day at also from 4-7 p.m.! Y’all come out and see us this week and keep an eye on our stories for what we’ll have available!

We broke ground on a new plot for potatoes over the weekend, and for some reason growing potatoes makes us feel like we’re real farmers. 🤣

We’re excited to be growing them this season, but we’re most excited about the growing method we’re trying out! It’s a no-hill method that we got from Andy Borak at Red Fern Farm and it’s right in line with our ‘work smarter not harder’ attitude this year.

Here’s the process:
- We laid out four 50’ beds and tilled the ground until the soil was nice and loose.
- We covered the soil with a layer of compost.
- We covered the compost with planting fabric and pinned it down with ground staples.
- We burned holes in said fabric. Each bed has two rows spaced 2’ apart with plants spaced 1’ apart. Seth made a stencil using a piece of plywood to make this part of the process easier.
- We used an auger to drill 5” down in the holes we burned.
- We put the seed potatoes into the holes and covered them with compost.
- We’re choosing to not irrigate this plot so we just let Mother Nature water them in and that’s that!

We initially thought we bit off more than we could chew when we got our 50lb box of seed potatoes in the mail, but with this no-hill method all the work is done upfront so in theory it should be easier to manage. We’ll see how it turns out! 🥔

What an incredible day at The Gathering! Community is so important to us and a huge reason why we do what we do so to have an opportunity to connect with like-minded people, learn some new things ourselves, and pass along a little knowledge we’ve gained over the years was such a joy!

We’re really looking forward to connecting with our community more this season so keep an eye out for more details about our upcoming plant sale, local front porch deliveries, markets and other fun things!!
