Maine’s famous “Ogunquitfest” celebration is finally here, bringing three days of Halloween fun, fall festivities, and seaside activities to the beautiful town of Ogunquit! Starting today, October 23rd, and continuing through Sunday, October 25th, this 23rd annual celebration has something for just about everyone. One of the weekend’s biggest attractions is the classic car show at Main Beach on Saturday, where vintage vehicles will be displayed beside the Atlantic Ocean. Families can enjoy trick-or-treating through downtown and Perkins Cove, while the popular Dogtoberfest parade brings out dogs dressed in all kinds of Halloween costumes. There’s also a large craft fair featuring more than 60 vendors, with handmade goods, food trucks, and live music. Sunday’s High Heel Dash in Perkins Cove adds plenty of laughs while raising money for the Frannie Peabody Center. Between events, you can explore Ogunquit’s famous three-mile sandy beach or walk the 1.25-mile Marginal Way, a beautiful oceanfront path overlooking Maine’s rocky shoreline. Perkins Cove is also a working fishing harbor with shops and waterfront restaurants. Admission to Ogunquitfest is completely free, and town-operated parking lots are free throughout the weekend!

They were born here.

As tiny fish no bigger than your finger, they left this Alaskan river. They swam to a lake, then out to the ocean, traveling more than 2,000 miles into the Pacific.

They lived there for years as silver-blue fish, eating krill that turned their flesh bright red.

And then, something called them home.

Millions of them, all at once, back to the exact river where they were born.

They don't look the same anymore. Their silver turns to blazing red. Their heads turn green. Males grow hooked jaws to fight for mates.

For a few weeks, the river doesn't look like water anymore. It looks like it's made of fish.

They come back to lay their eggs, and then their journey ends. Bears, eagles, forests, even the trees feed on them. The river gave them life, and they give life back to the river.

It's not just a migration. It's a homecoming.
