I've been playing with a new crop this season.

These giant chrysanthemums are just gorgeous!

My goal is to provide you with fresh cut flowers until the end of October. That means they have to thrive in cooler temperatures, shorter day length, and be easy to protect from frosts.

I don't have any greenhouses, but I can use a row cover or a clear plastic cover for frost protection.

Hmmmm, I'll keep working in my garden laboratory until I get it just right.

Meanwhile, I get to reap the benefits of my experiment! Beautiful flowers!

This is what can happen to your dried hydrangeas when you leave them within the reach of a visiting toddler.

Cool temps, pumpkin spice, my favorite sweater, falling leaves, and the bold fall colors of dried flowers gracing my fireplace mantel all add up to my favorite season...Autumn!

They're finally here!

We have been harvesting, arranging, and drying these gorgeous flowers all season long, and now they're ready for market!

We'll have mixed dried bouquets of strawflowers, gomphrena, and celosia, as well as dried larkspur bunches, hydrangeas, and p***y willow twigs available in September and October until they're gone.

You'll get to enjoy the beauty of their bright bold colors all winter long!

Everybody is gathering around the pool to stay cool during this heatwave.

It's going to be hot at our markets this week, but we'll be there with our beautiful bouquets!

Harvesting has been such a pleasure this morning!

Fall is in the air and in our fresh cut flower bouquets this week.

Look for those deep, rich autumn color tones that remind us that pumpkin spice season is right around the corner!

Long Hot Summer

This Keith Urban song title perfectly describes our flower farming experience this year.

Emma and I love to listen to country music while we create our bouquets for market.

So, naturally, when I heard Keith Urban would be playing at the Voices of America Country Music Festival, I bought some tickets.

Of course, I had no idea we would have a heat wave this season that would last from May (when I bought the tickets) through August (when we went to the concert).

A cool (finally!) evening out with family watching Keith Urban rock out right in front of us was exactly what we needed to break the sluggishness of working in the heat and humidity we've been experiencing since May.

Listening to great music for a few hours was pure fun!

Man, can that guy play the guitar!

Now, we are refreshed and ready to face the next wave of 90-degree temperatures when they return.

After all, it is August in southern Ohio!

Green flowers? Why would I grow green flowers?

I asked myself this question when I was browsing through a seed catalog a few years ago.

After all, I was growing green foliage, isn't that enough?

I like to try new flowers, so I ordered some green zinnias.

Suddenly, I understood the appeal!

They were gorgous! They highlight the colors of the other flowers, and they seem to glow in a bouquet.

They have an entirely different purpose in a bouquet from green foliage.

You'll find lots of green zinnias and lisianthus in your bouquet this week!

We'll see you at the Lebanon Farmer's Market this afternoon and at Deerfield Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.
