Letâs talk about the hard, ugly parts of homesteading.
Everyone shares the pretty parts, the baby goats, the garden harvests, the cozy barn lights at sunset. But what you donât see as often are the hard days, like when a goat suddenly goes off feed, starts throwing up, or runs a fever, and youâre standing there with a thermometer, activated charcoal, and Google as your best friends.
We love our animals like family, so when they get sick, we do everything we can at home, such as, checking temps, giving electrolytes, using charcoal for possible toxins, and trying to figure out what went wrong, long before we ever call the vet. Not because we donât care, but because out here, itâs just what we have to do sometimes.
Homesteading isnât always picture-perfect. Itâs learning as you go, doing your best, crying over losses, celebrating small wins, and caring deeply, even when itâs messy, stressful, full of mud, goat vomit and heartache.
So hereâs to all of us learning the hard way, praying over goats, and doing our best to keep this crazy, beautiful homestead life running. This life isnât always easy, but I wouldnât trade it for the world. Thankful are babies are on the mend this morningâ¤ď¸
