Most people walk right past this.
But 150 years ago, it kept people alive.
Miner’s Lettuce — one of the first wild greens to emerge after winter — was eaten by gold miners to prevent scurvy when fresh food was hard to come by.
Long before that, it was a staple for Indigenous communities who understood exactly what the land provides, and when.
Now it’s growing here at Shadow Birch.
Tender. Mild. Almost buttery.
Best eaten fresh — straight from the field.
This is what early spring actually tastes like.
