Two butterflies caught my eye in the pasture, and they reminded me of something. If you want to know the health of your farm, don't just look at the livestock. Look around.

Watch for butterflies drifting across the pasture. Listen for bees working the flowers. Notice the birds, the wildflowers, and the diversity of plants growing under your feet. Nature has a way of showing us when an ecosystem is functioning the way it should.

A healthy farm isn't just about producing animals. It's about creating an environment where life thrives—from the soil microbes we never see to the butterflies that stop us in our tracks. These little visitors are a reminder that good stewardship leaves clues everywhere. All we have to do is slow down long enough to notice them.

The doelings and yearlings finally got turned out onto the NE pasture today. Matt planted this pasture earlier this spring, and after weeks of waiting for it to grow, it was nice to finally open the gate and let them have at it. The forage is looking good, and so far they're spending all their time grazing grass and haven't even discovered the iron clay peas yet.

These young females will be here for a while before rotating to other pastures later this season. Then the breeding does will move in for a nutritional flush ahead of breeding season.

🌻 A little Wildflower Acres magic... 🌻

These sunflowers weren’t planted, watered, or pampered. They simply showed up in our catch pen and decided to make themselves at home. For a while, I couldn't figure out where they came from. Then I remembered we occasionally feed sunflower seeds to the goats. Mystery solved. 😂

Still, there’s something fitting about volunteer sunflowers popping up on a farm called Wildflower Acres. Sometimes the best things aren’t part of the plan—they just appear, grow where they’re planted, and brighten the landscape.

These volunteer sunflowers are a reminder that nature has a way of adding a little beauty when you least expect it.

One of the most satisfying parts of a breeding program is watching the next generation develop. While every goat is unique, it's easy to appreciate the similarities in their feminine appearance, style, and overall presence.

Photos like this are a reminder that good breeding decisions aren't just reflected in pedigrees—they show up in the pasture.

We're excited to watch this young doe continue to develop and carry the legacy of both Jasmine Royale and Michelangelo forward.

POV: you’re parasite larvae in a humid Florida pasture. 🌱

You climbed your little 4 inches.
The forage is knee high.
And you haven’t seen a host in weeks. 😂🐐

Turk handled security detail last night after spotting a rat snake in the pasture. Before anyone panics — yes, rat snakes are beneficial, and we intervened before Turk could fully commit to his farm-to-table lifestyle. 😂🐍

By sunrise, he had apparently excavated himself a fresh dirt bunker and was sprawled out in it completely covered in dirt, recovering from his overnight shift. He’s just out here protecting the pasture and making questionable culinary decisions

One of the biggest mistakes after a drought is pushing goats too hard on fresh regrowth too quickly.

New forage can be:
✔️Extremely rich
✔️High moisture
✔️Heavily contaminated with parasite larvae after rain events

Strategic turnout, pasture height management, mineral support, and close monitoring can protect both your herd and your grass long term. Management now affects productivity for the rest of the season.

The landscaping crew was hard at work today on the driveway… and by landscaping crew, we mean the goats. 🌼🐐

They may not be fast, efficient, or particularly focused, but they work cheap and seem very proud of themselves.

Late May at Wildflower Acres Farm means wildflowers in the fence rows and green finally coming back into the pastures.

After the dry spell we’ve had, this view feels pretty rewarding. Not perfect pasture yet — but definitely hope growing back in.🌼
