Sometimes sheep like to take your plans for where they should go and what they should do, and they trample it to the ground πŸ™ƒ

This is the naughtiest batch of lambs that we've ever had. Off to barn jail the sheep go, so I don't have to deal with chasing lambs in the rain tomorrow. And they were headed to the barn any way for while we were at the fair.

At least the sky was pretty 🀷

2 dozen eggs are out in the fridge! That's the last of it until we get back next week from the fair. Ground lamb is officially sold out until our butcher date in February. Thank you to everyone who has purchased eggs and lamb! It means so much to me 😁😊

Me: "Hey, whatcha doing?"
Alice: "I'm singing to the little pumpkin"

We brought home a book from the library called "Oh, Carrots" a rabbit takes care of his plants including singing to them and one of the carrots comes alive. It's a very cute book, highly recommend 😊

The little farmers convinced me to go pick pumpkins for the fair display this morning πŸ˜… I really had to rein Alice in, the pumpkin princess πŸ‘‘ They know the pumpkin varieties better than I do, and they know where in the field they're planted (pretty good a 5 year old and a 3 year old).

Ivan found some deer bites, I guess they decided to move back into the field now that the sheep and Boris aren't next to the pumpkins any more.

And Alice told me that you can tell which pumpkins are the Polar Bears because their leaves are shaped like Lily pads 🐸

The end result of our picking is this pretty little sampler, at least the kids help Grampy enough in the pumpkin patch that I think they earn a few pumpkins πŸ˜‰

We're a little "short" staffed these days πŸ˜… I'm just glad they are so excited and willing to help unload hay right now, we can hope they keep this up when they're older. So glad we are filing up the barn with second cut this year! The sheep will eat well this winter 😁 Better hay means healthier sheep which means healthier lambs which means a better end product for our customers (and us!)

My good little helper volunteered to scrub all of the smaller water tubs today: calves, pigs and chickens. Though the pens probably received a little extra water on the ground, I'm thankful that she wants to help and this tired headache ridden mom needed it today πŸ˜…

Eggs are in stock in the fridge by the road, along with some ground lamb (what's left for ground lamb is all that's left until lambs go to the butcher in February).

Alice loves Charlotte (I don't blame her, Charlotte is the best piggie)
This is a good example of how scratching a pig's belly can send them into a calm zen-like state, it works pretty quick on Charlotte. She is a fairly calm and very friendly pig, so I think that helps.

Have any volunteer pumpkins from your last year's leftovers? This is ours, it grew in the corner of the barn. The cows usually eat the plants of the ones that grow in their pen before anything gets too big.

Fun pumpkin fact: if they are starting to turn orange when you pick them, they will continue to turn orange 🧑

Show us your volunteer pumpkins!
