It is hard to put into words this weekend. It was a spectacular whirlwind. Over 550 dairy goats from 8 states with 6 judges came into 2 cow barns in Deerfield, NH to strut their stuff. We showed 4 milkers including the first goats we purchased and the first does born on our homestead 2 years ago. 3 out of the 4 we brought into the ring made it into the top 10 in their class under multiple judges and our own Affable Farm Royal Magnolia made it into the championship line-up. The kids showed the goats and were standing in line with breeders with decades of experience and adult expertise. I am proud of my kids and proud of our animals. We also brought them home to continue milking them where they feed our family and a few others which is the real reason we have them to have fresh milk and cheese from our backyard into our home and touch every part of the process. I feel exhausted and blessed.

Breakfast which was made more delicious thanks to the goats. Waffles were cooked with homemade goat milk yogurt, butter and whipped cream!

Yesterday was a learning day. Poppy who was the one I wanted a keeper doe from started labor at night, the next day she continued. After pushing at 2, I waited and checked. At 3 I went in, at 4 we learned about a community of support with vet friend who left work (it was Friday 😘) to help because I couldn’t get a head flipped around. We kept feeling feet and a head but it wouldnt follow. The 2 boys were twisted trying to be one. At 5 we called for more l**e, husband and son went to Walgreens for a super supply 🤦🏻‍♀️, later a buckling doa (who we gave our best effort but he never took a breath) and then a spry little guy. The kids watched and stepped out and came back. Poppy is sore but still here. You keep going as today we hatched 21 chicks and have 2 more does due yesterday.

This group of eggs is so loud! They started peeping yesterday. Hoping for some Easter Egger and Calico Cochin Bantams chick 🐣 tomorrow or Sunday. Meanwhile the goats are holding their hostages firm...
