Hi! My name is Flora, and I am the youngest in the Bybee Family. I’m 1 1/2 years old, & I was so happy that they picked me! I love playing in the Christmas trees while my parents work in the field. Grabbing sticks is one of my favorite activities. I also enjoy sleeping in strips of sunlight, watching Hallmark movies, kayaking, & fishing. It’s really fun when “the kids” come over. I love going to their tennis matches and helping with the homework. Oh, and I have a great sense of humor, and I love to be cuddled. Thank you for coming to my farm & meeting my family. I know you’ll love your time here…just like me!🐾

And, we love our amazing “kid crew!” Our grandchildren have grown up, helping at our tree farm. It is a special time that we all look forward to because we love to be together! As the kids get older, their jobs are adjusted to fit their age. They help us with:

Setting up all the buildings
Greeting customers
Parking, baling, & shaking trees
Sled & saw management
Assistance in the greenery shelter
Lunches for workers
Restocking crayons/color books
Helping with customers in cabin
Fun Entertainment 😉

We feel that it’s excellent training for their future jobs. This includes being an important part of a team, communicating with customers of all ages, problem solving, & physical labor.
Plus, we also love to be “in the audience,” at their extracurricular activities.
They are involved in theater productions, Madrigals, tennis, art, choir, & band.
They are blessings and bring much joy & love into our lives.❤️

Three cheers for Sam! This year, he will be traveling to the farm from Utah to help out. Along the way, he is making a stop in North Dakota to reach his fiftieth state.
Before the sale, Sam helps out with setting up. He works to get the baler and shaker, in place. And, he puts up the signs. On the day of the sale, he assists with the shaking & baling of the trees.
He is a wildland firefighter. Sam leads crew members to reduce wildland fires. This includes hazardous tree removal, brush reduction, and prescribed burning. His crew works in Utah and anywhere nationally, where they are needed.
Sam’s hobbies are camping/hiking, road trips, international travel, cooking, fishing, video & board games, and cards with friends. He was the best man in Andrew & Maddie’s wedding. We are grateful for our time with Sam.

Hooray!
We are excited to introduce another crucial part of our work crew. This is our son, Andrew, & his wife, Maddie. We celebrated their wedding, in Colorado, this fall. We are so happy for both of them & us!
They greet people, give out tree information, shake, & bale the trees. Andrew works as an Associative Creative Director at Bio Techne in Denver. In his spare time, he creates beautiful art work, enjoys hiking, is loyal to our Chicago sport teams, and attends music concerts.
Maddie works at Traveler’s Insurance Company. She is an underwriter for financial institutions. In her free moments, she enjoys reading, gardening, and cooking. It has been a joy to watch their dreams come true. We are thrilled whenever we can have them home.

Next up, we will introduce our family members & their roles at the tree farm.
We are grateful for Nathan and Lizzy (Bybee) Bailey. Nathan is a key member of our tree farm. He is a leader in the shake & bale area, before the trees are loaded in your vehicle. Sometimes, he will step in to help with greenery, if needed, too.
During the week, Nathan works for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a graphic designer in Springfield.

Lizzy runs the greenery area, in the shelter. We love the artistic flair & “magic” she adds to our wreaths.
For her occupation, Lizzy owns “Studio Bliss,” a photography business in Springfield.
They have four children whom we adore.
We are so happy to have all of them home, over the holidays.

We took our Christmas tree business on the road… We traveled to Indian Creek Elementary to teach third & fourth graders about running a tree farm. It was fun to return to the location of Pam’s first teaching job which was the old Shabbona Elementary School, in the late eighties. It is a beautiful school with incredible educators. Thank you for having us visit.

The greenery (wreaths, crosses, mailbox swag, mantels) is created one week before the sale. This way the items are fresh & long lasting. All of the greens are collected at the Bybee Farm. We typically make around 100 items. Then, they are individually decorated by Lizzy. The wreath building was added to the cabin in 2023 to provide shelter & warmth for customers. The building smells just like Christmas!
