With Mother's Day fast approaching - I am reflecting on my life as a mother and I find myself pondering a question that repeatedly finds me...
"What will they remember?"
I ask myself this question often. Dreaming about who they will be when they grow up - how the things I do today will effect their lives tomorrow and forever... what will they do one day, because their mom used to do x,y,z? It's my most used journal prompt and one of my favorite bed time questions for my husband...
and tonight -
I hope they remember slow Saturday mornings with music in the kitchen. Misshapen pancakes made with the best intentions. Laughing, sitting on the counter, and licking spoons. How I always took the time to cut their sandwich just the way they like it and left sweet notes in their lunches. I hope they remember learning to bake cookies and casseroles and homemade gravy. The Graham crackers with icing my grandma always made me. Birthday breakfasts and the smell of butter cake in the oven. That friends bring food when friends are sick, you never return an empty dish and that frozen girl scout cookies are best served after a long talk at midnight. I hope they remember how much I loved making recipes handed down from their grandparents and mine. How food can bring people together, encourage conversation and make people feel cared for. Mostly, I hope they remember that the secret ingredient was always love ♡
