Thanks Caleb - for shouting out to the farms that have been here a while. We're still here....still....here....
The next stop in our Loudoun Century Farm series is Oakland Green Farm.
Oakland Green Farm is a 200-acre cattle farm, located in a rural setting south of Leesburg and just south of Lincoln. The farm's main focus is raising Black Angus beef cattle, with some land set aside to grow hay and corn. They also run a bed & breakfast in the farm's oldest historic building, which dates back to the early 1700s.
The farm itself was established in 1730 by Richard Brown, a Quaker farmer who had migrated south from Pennsylvania. It was formally deeded to him in 1741. The family still has the original deed that was signed by Lord Fairfax. Over the years, its size has been reduced to its current 200 acres, and it has been at various points an orchard, a dairy farm, and now a beef cattle farm. But 300 years later, it is still a working farm, and is currently owned and run by Sara Brown, Richard's descendant.
If you tour the farm's grounds, you'll find a number of historic buildings, including the original homestead log house, a pre-Civil War barn, and a spring house that was built in 1801 (and was used for full water supply until 1992). The original log house also carries the marks of each new generation of the family, as they built additions to it, added its barns, and planted its trees and shrubs. Oakland Green Farm's beef products are available through The Hamilton Mercantile in the town of Hamilton. You can also order beef directly from them, either by the side or as frozen individual cuts, at this link: https://buff.ly/42fFZIQ And if you're interested in staying at the farm's B&B, or booking the farm as a wedding site, you can make those arrangements at the same link.
