Today we’re making a post-emerge application over our soybean fields, targeting pesky weeds and volunteer corn that compete with our crop for sunlight, water, and nutrients.

Keeping fields clean and healthy is an important part of producing a strong crop and making the most of every acre. Every pass across the field has a purpose, and this one helps give our soybeans the best opportunity to thrive throughout the growing season.

That’s why it’s encouraging to see policies that recognize the value of working lands and the people who steward them every day. The USDA’s new Ranchers-First Grazing Directive aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles, improve access to grazing opportunities, and strengthen support for rural communities that depend on agriculture. Feeding the crop!

Just like people, corn needs the right nutrients at the right time. This week we’re making passes across the field applying nitrogen to help fuel healthy growth and maximize yield potential.

Nitrogen is one of the most important nutrients for corn, supporting everything from plant development to kernel production. By applying it during the growing season, we’re giving the crop access to nutrients when it needs them most.

Every pass across the field is an investment in the harvest ahead. Now we’ll let Mother Nature do her part.

🇺🇸 From Rural America to Capitol Hill 🇺🇸

Last week, I (Kassi) had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. with an incredible group of women farmers I’ve called friends and peers for more than 12 years. Together, we represent family farming operations across six states and tens of thousands of acres of production agriculture.

In just 2½ days, we participated in 17 meetings with leaders from USDA, USTR, the White House, and members of Congress. We shared real-world perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture today—from trade and biofuels to labor, input costs, and ensuring the next generation has the opportunity to continue the family farm.

Advocacy isn’t always done from a tractor cab or a field edge. Sometimes it means taking our boots to Capitol Hill and making sure the voices of farmers are heard where decisions are being made.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent Tom Farms, Indiana agriculture, and the family farms that work every day to feed, fuel, and clothe our world. While one trip won’t solve every challenge, we’re hopeful these conversations help move the needle for American farmers and rural communities.

For generations, the path to farming often meant inheriting land, equipment, and a place in the operation. Today, the next generation faces a much different reality. High land values, rising costs, and tight margins mean success requires more than hard work—it takes strategy, innovation, strong relationships, and a willingness to adapt.

As a multi-generational family farm, we know that preserving a legacy isn’t just about passing down acres. It’s about creating opportunities for the next generation to lead, grow, and succeed.

The future of agriculture will belong to those who can embrace change while staying rooted in the values that built our farms in the first place.
