As we check in on this #winewednesday, it looks like Virginia's wacky April weather is in full force.

#VAwine faces another frost tonight. We managed to get thru the last one, but with warmer temps this past weekend, all the grape varietals on site are now at risk.

Here's hoping and praying that all of our natural defenses: the woods that can keep us cocooned with some warmth, our two ponds, the winds that keep frost from settling, and the luck of our site, helps these fragile babies survive.

Best of luck #loudouncounty and #Virginia at large. It's going to be a long night.

Budbreak has arrived in our Chardonnay! What a fragile little thing.

We hope the weather stays steady and the winds calm down. We have had 60 days of high wind this year, we are ready for a break. Everyone is tired of the drastic temperature swings.

We will have our normal hours Friday, Saturday and Monday. But we will be CLOSED for Easter, Sunday, April 17th.

🎶 🎵 Memories 🎶 🎵

Thank you to those who joined us yesterday. We heard from a lot of club and customers who have been with us forever, with many of them remembering the day Nelson fell.

Nelson was on an 18ft ladder climbing to the top of the newly poured winery walls, when the ladder came away from the wall and went crashing down with Nelson on top of it.

Nelson almost lost an eye, with the orbital shelf of his left eye being totally broken and many, many, fractures on the left side of his face. Both wrists were fractured, and his left elbow had a compound fracture. His entire body was bruised with several cracked ribs and a pretty severe concussion. 😫🤕🤯

As Casey always said "The Devil didn't want him and God wasn't ready," so Nelson was saved by one of his nine lives! We are grateful for the miracle of his survival and for our awesome local fire and EMTs who did a great with him because, yes, he remained conscience the whole time and was only concerned about his concrete. Once Elliotte and Anna got to the hospital he made Elliotte go back to the farm to make sure the concerte job was finished. 😆 😄 🤣

It is no exaggeration when we claim Nelson has had a hand in every aspect of building Casanel. From planting the vines to the restoring and building of our facilities.

The phrase his "blood, sweat, and tears" are in the property is not hyperbole either.
