When you’re driving out of Batesburg to New Holland, there’s a must-stop roadside farm stand full of local gems - Carey Farms! We are so excited to let yall know our elderberry syrups are now there too ⭐️

You can also find their locally raised beef, jams, handcrafted goods, locally roasted coffee, raw milk, natural soaps, seasonal local produce…and check out this gorgeous handmade quilt we found there 🤩

Even if you aren’t going that way, it’s worth a peaceful drive out in the country to check out 😉

Who has been talking about finally planting their backyard orchard & looking for trees? 🍋🍑🍊

Our friends bought a plant nursery and have all kinds of fruit trees, citrus, landscaping trees, palms, tropicals like pineapple guava, flowers & plants available in Williston, SC. They are having a huge plant sale today!

After the giveaway that included a fruit tree I’ve had several ask if they can purchase some so wanted to share…

Early this morning on our way out to ride horses we spotted a bird by the chickens that didn’t exactly look like a chicken….

A small juvenile hawk was hopping around with one wing backwards. Not sure what happened to it - the roosters didn’t seem bothered by it and our livestock guardian dog doesn’t really mess with birds (and she would have killed it not injured it if she thought it was a threat).

Thankfully I was able to catch it & my husband took it to Carolina Wildlife where they confirmed one wing broken. They will help heal the wing and then release it once he is all better.

He almost passes for a chicken in the first picture, right? 😅

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway and all the farm stand support this year! The winner of the basket is Dawn Bedenbaugh and the runner up is Paula Mertens Aull (you get an elderberry & jam!)…there will have another giveaway this fall!

This year at the stand, we tried to do self serve only, attempted to plant triple the amount of cut flowers which failed completely due to severe drought/lack of rain, deer ate most of the crops we had planted for the stand…so many other hurdles. From these lessons we learned a lot for next year.

Now we are in full elderberry syrup season mode through fall/winter but we have new products & farm life updates to share along the way. Thank you again for all your support 🩷

6 years ago we got a meat turkey to raise for Thanksgiving that year.

Of course that never happened…our kids named the turkey Precious and she would come up to anyone to lay at their feet to get petted. She would make turkey purrs and sit quietly to be held & loved on. She enjoyed long power wheels and golf cart rides on a kids lap.

Turkey had been having issues this summer. Despite our best efforts to help her the last few months, she passed away this morning.

Sometimes it’s the most unexpected animals that leave an impact on your heart. Rest easy Precious, thank you for the beautiful memories 🦃 💕

Tonight we finally got some good rain and it was time to use a new recipe for dinner! H+J Cattle Co. loose pork sausage was made into some ginger & garlic braised meatballs in a coconut curry sauce and it was perfection! Sharing the Food + Wine recipe used in comments - this took very little time and made 40 meatballs (so there will be leftovers)

The only change made to the recipe was adding curry powder to the meatballs and extra to the sauce. EGY Farms local organic garlic 🧄 really boosted the flavor too 🥘🧆🌿 We topped with some crunchy chili for the family members that like a lil spicy!

What are yall cooking tonight? I’m always on the hunt for another good recipe to add to our rotation ☺️

Gearing up for another farmstand Friday with local tomatoes, okra & a restock of Kirksey Hollow Farm raw honey 🍯🍅🌞🌱

Big news - our SC certified grown & produced Mama Bears Elderberry syrups have landed at Carolina Farm School & Market in Chapin!

The first cases have been so popular (even before back-to-school immune boosting season) that we just dropped off more this morning to restock along with blackberry + blueberry jams!

If you havnt heard about this new gem, Carolina Farm School & Market brings together local produce, farms, classes, natural products & a community of growers/makers. Grab an organic coffee out front at Lake Murray Coffee and let the kids play in a cute outdoor activity area while you shop.

Has anyone else been there and seen all their local goods since the grand opening a month ago? I’d love to hear what you think!
