What is that one dish that brings so many memories of you and your family in the Philippines?

Lately, it has been the "Isdang Paksiw" for me.

In bisaya, we call this dish, "Inun-unan".

As a child, this is not my most favorite dish because of how often my family cooks it. I got sick of it, except for when the fish was Danggit - that is my favorite.

The other time, I have indulged on this dish was when my Lola (Grandma)Tekla cooks it whenever we visit their province in Baroy, Lanao Del Norte.

I remember one summer when our entire Laude Clan decided to treck the mountains/bukid "For Fun" (Kay mangadto lagi sa mga Fiesta😂), from bario to bario and ended up, starving along the way! We walked I don't know how many miles. It was dang far!😂

We survived mainly from the Paksiw made by my Lola Tekla, that was placed in a tub-like tupperware. She carried it on her head for a few days and fed her starving grandkids if there was no fiesta yet in sight. 😂😂😂

Love those priceless memories!!

Great News! Dearly's Authentic Filipino Goodies JUST GOT the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Permit by the Utah County Health Department!

You know your food is safe even if it's served from our home kitchen.❤️

Apparently, I'm the FIRST Filipino-owned Food Business who got this permit in Utah County.

Thank you to Inspectors Jay and Dave for guiding me all througout the process.

I cannot do this without the guidance and help of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce and Industy of Utah through their mentorship program. A big thanks to PACCI-Utah!!

I have a confession to make.

For months, I have not been accepting orders for my signature siopao or bao (Meat Buns) because my buns keep collapsing. No matter what I do, I can't seem to figure out why it keeps collapsing, looks pitted and yellowish.

UNTIL, I made the decision to look into the science behind it.

Did you know that STEAMED Buns are very tricky to make because it is very sensitive to temperature, the kind of flour used, how long it needs to proof, kneading techniques, and other factors?

I had to stop getting orders to do some Research and Development for this product and finally, today (May 29, 2024), I made my first successful batch after failing at least 10 times if not more these past few months.

Hi, I am Dearly! I cook your favorite Filipino desserts, SIOPAO and LUMPIA in Utah. 😊

I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to America in 2015 and eventually, build my own little family.

Making and cooking these authentic Filipino goodies makes me feel connected to my roots. It is also the best way I find to intoduce my culture and tradition to my kids.

Every Filipino food I make is coupled with a beautiful story of my most memorable memories growing up in the Philippines. I intend to keep these memories alive by bringing those nostalgic feelings through my cooking.

Cooking these Filipino goodies is my work of art. A passion I find very useful to help other Filipinos and Filipinos at heart "Have a taste of home, in every bite."

(A Filipino dessert made from steamed cassava)

To be honest, I only discovered this Filipino dessert in my church mission area in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines when I was already 23 years old. I never had this in my city (Zamboanga) where I grew up.

One of the dear families we taught there, were selling these for a living. Not as a side hustle, but as a way to get by, so that they can afford to buy rice that day.

The very first time I had it, I was hooked! It just melts in the mouth! It was delicious! And this family, would always offer it to us missionaries, for free even though we would insist to pay them back for it.

These are my nostalgic moments whenever I make and eat Pichi-Pichi. I remember that family's generosity. I remember my shared moments with them. I remember the smiles on their faces when they see us indulge their scrumptious Pichi-Pichi.

This act of service, despite their humble situation, filled their hearts with joy and filled our stomachs that we may be full and fueled enough to walk few more miles back home.

Thank you, Ole***** Family. I will never forget your generosity and kindness. ❤️
