How Much Beeswax Does One Hive Actually Produce? 🐝🕯️
​When we think of beekeeping, honey is usually the star of the show. But there is another precious treasure hidden within the hive: Beeswax.
​Did you know that a single, healthy honeybee colony can produce an estimated range of 0.5 to 2.5 kilograms (1.1 – 5.5 pounds) of harvestable wax per year? The average yield typically sits right around 1.0 to 1.5 kg.
​Where does this wax come from?
​🍯 Cappings Wax: The ultra-pure, thin layer sliced off over ripe honey cells during extraction (the highest quality wax you can get!).
​📐 Burr Comb: Extra comb built by the bees in unused gaps or awkward spaces inside the box.
​🗃️ Old Frames: Darker combs retired and melted down during routine hive maintenance.
