We finally have found our calling and we bought the farm! We purchased a beautiful farm which is under a Conservancy Deed which is managed by Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy. This guarantees the land will remain the same till eternity and we will be the stewards of the land. The land was owned by the Blazer family for many decades. The Blazers were animal advocates and had countless animals living on the property over the years and never actually used the land for farming or livestock. They were big hearted country folk who cared more than most.
The property is 80 acres of pristine pasteurs with many species of hardwood trees. There is a huge old To***co Barn since this was a to***co farm in the 1800's. There are 2 homesites one which is a stunning Historic Victorian Farmhouse. There are others houses and pens for the many animals that lived there over the years. There are many springs and creeks with clean fresh water and all types of native Appalachian wildlife.
Our intentions are to do many things with the land and we are planning to make the land a Sanctuary for Farm Animals. In the country where farm animals are used to work the land farmers will often euthanize those that no longer can perform the duty. We will make friends with all the local farmers in the area and open our arms to farm animals from wherever we can save them. We will ask to adopt those mature animals at the end of their work cycle in favor of letting them live their remaining mature lives on the farm free range in a safe and loving environment. We happen to be healthcare professionals and Clinical Geriatric pharmacists by career. We are no strangers to the end of cycle with people moving out of their homes into Adult Living Facilities or confined in a nursing home to live out their lives. Our ALF will offer the same respect to farm animals and we are adding a twist by using the acronym. ALF, to be Animals Living Free with love, respect and dignity!
Join us on this journey and watch as we transform the land not just for the farm animals but to create a sustainable farm free of fertilizers and pesticides as we are planning to create a Farmers Coop. We plan to lease small tracts of land to local farmers. Our goal is to have a group of boutique organic farmers who will farm the land responsibly. We will help connect the farmers with local restaurants to build on Farm to table. We will grow our base of farmers to create a wonderful weekend Farmers market while weather permits 5 months a year.
