Food labeling is confusing. But do not be deceived!

When orange juice says it's non-GMO, please recognize that all oranges are non-GMO. The only potential GMO products in the USA are papaya, corn, alfalfa, soybeans, cotton, potatoes, squash, canola, sugar beets, and apples.

When organic milk is labeled antibiotic free, remember that all dairy products, including milk, are always antibiotic free. Same applies to meat.

Those bananas advertised as cholesterol free? That's because all bananas are cholesterol free.

When a jar of peanuts says it is made in a plant that processes peanuts just use your common sense and roll your eyes.

When a bag of apples says it is gluten free, remember that gluten comes from wheat.

When you see a Facebook post that talks about hormones in beef, please understand that an 8oz serving of beef has 2-3 nanograms of estrogen, an 8 oz serving of white bread has 136,080 nanograms of estrogen, and 8 ounces of soy flour has 342,468,000 nanograms of estrogen. All living things produce estrogen, it's just science.

When that carton of eggs says that they came from vegetarian fed chickens, don't forget that chickens are naturally omnivores.

So yes, eat healthy, but don't be swayed by deceptive advertising. Be informed.

No farms, no food. Know your farmers, know your food.

Our Story

The land that we now farm was originally settled by our ancestors in the early 1800s. We are not sure of the exact date of when the first Reeves family moved into Little Sandy Mush, but we do know that the house that we still live in was built in 1840 by Malachi Reeves. The farm had humble beginnings like most farms in the early 1900s providing just enough for the family to survive, but when the to***co boom came to western North Carolina Reeves Home Place Farm really took off. During the mid to late 1900s our small family farm became a large to***co producing farm that allowed our grandfather, Burder Reeves, to continue farming on the same land that his ancestors had farmed for generations.

We are currently the 7th generation to live and farm on the same land and we feel extremely blessed to be able to do so. When the demand for to***co dropped we were forced to think of other ways to keep the farm running, and one way we did that and continue to do so is by raising beef cattle. The farm always had cattle on it, but now we raise our Black Angus cattle in order to provide high quality meats to our customers. We also added some greenhouses and currently provide Ingles Markets with Upland Cress that we grow hydroponically. Our farm is always growing and trying new things in order to be able to keep farming, because for us being able to provide for our family and our community is the best thing that any farm can do.

This year, we converted the original farmhouse into a Bed & Breakfast. We have four (4) bedrooms that are located on the 2nd floor of the farm house and share a full bathroom which includes a shower, sink, toilet, and claw-footed tub. The main floor includes the parlor room, dining area, and half bath. Stay includes Appalachian Farm-to-Table Breakfast. We also offer farm workshops, floral designs, massage therapy, special events, tours, and yoga classes.
