I bought a new feeder for my baby turkeys. Of course the only one they had. Who in the heck came up with the idea of a glow in the dark feeder!

This has been a long drawn out tale. Last year we bought a calf cow pair of low line angus. Theresa was what we named her and she has been stand off since. Her bull calf is Heinz and we planed on doing some breeding for our own needs. Fast forward to now. Theresa is bred to our dexter. Still stand offish. On the fourth of July she goes into labor. Usually I check the s*x and make an ear tag. But psyched myself out with all I had heard about how crazy angus can get especially when calving. So I pick generic name Rian, and took the tag out. I fed the adults at their troughs. About a football length away and went to tag the new calf. As I approached her she took off running and ran into the fence. I grabbed her and she let out aloud cry. I looked over my shoulder and the adults stopped eating looked my way and started running. I tagged her quickly and ran away to a hide behind a tree. She followed me! So I moved to another tree. Just as the adults showed up. I let them smell my hand and they calmed down. I had to stay by the tree for a while till the bull and Theresa calmed down and then I scooted out. I did get to check if it was a bull but we assumed so. Since then she has sneaked out under the gate 2 different times. Both times she found my husband and visited with him. The last time I finally got a glimpse of her hind end. It's a heifer! She still wants nothing to do with me but i think we're in trouble cause she has a little attitude! Green tag shows she's got lowline angus.

This week we had a bull calf born. He was up and running so fast. I tried to tag him and he kept running to "daddy". Needless to say he wasn't too happy with me messing with his new calf so...I'll catch him later. Quincy was born to Hope.

This is the baby pen. I had to redo all my chickens because the eagles were dining on them. Now we have roofs on all the cages. Still have to finish the turkey pen but for now their all safe.

Moved the baby chicks outside today. The weather has been nice but I'll keep the heat on them for a while at night.

Poor Cotton. Some time during the night on Sunday Cotton and Payton jumped the fence to their pasture. Don't know why but they jumped in with the cows. Then Payton jumped into an empty field. Once I rounded them up and moved them back I found Cotton had tore open his abdomen. He had stopped bleeding so I put him in a pen alone and sprayed with antiseptic spray and called the vet Monday morning. It's hard to find vet services on the weekend. He has scratches on his one side of his abdomen and a golf ball size tear open on the other. Vet said he couldn't sew him up cause there was too much muscle. He shaved it and gave us antibiotics. Looks like he's healing good but he'll have a scar. And he doesn't like being separated. Oh well.
