Some bees, little comb, and a cell AND we’re off!!

Along with being on a grafting schedule this summer I'm trying to get some warre (pile box) style hives set up as mating nucs. Today I put some bees with comb I cut up and a cell in. Let's see if it takes. Bottom box has a divider, 4 frames on each side with and entrance out each side (double). Top box is a shell covering feed jar.

First graft 2026. 32 cells. This season I'm trying to dial some things in and multiple rounds of grafting is top on the list.

Earlier this spring I had a bear visit and take out some over wintered nucs and a honey producer. I moved the remaining back to my house and finished up the new and improved out yard. Maybe a little excessive on the double fencing but when you have it sitting around not in use.... Hives coming back soon.

April 2026 Bee Report. 18 days of flight, pollen coming in, drone cells and a couple drones walking around, equalized and started to feed over wintered nucs, and reversed and added supers. I had a bear take out 4 nucs and one production hive. I found the queen from the production hive and set her back up, but that hive is in the "ICU". I set up two packages I got. With the packages I'm just managing them as if I just got into bees and documenting what I'm doing. I'll share more later on that. Plants I notice "waking up": dandelion, maple, skunk cabbage, forsythia. I did take note that when I saw the yellow buds of the forsythia I noticed capped drone cells in the hives. For the most part I let the bees grow for April. The picture is of my new apiary informant.

Happy May 1. I told my daughter if this things goes on sale I'm going to buy it, well it went on sale. :)
