It’s flower season! I’ll be at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market Saturday with bouquets including gorgeous peonies. I love this time of year because I get to share flowers with you again!

Tubers will ship in mid-April. This prevents any risk of the tubers freezing during shipping.

Are you interpreting the Pantone color of the year too literally? Probably.
My main work is in the fashion industry. I actually see the selection of a soft, neutral white as good news. Everything works with it, including bright saturated colors. The muddy tones have left the room.

Pantone picking white for 2026 doesn’t mean everyone is going to be wearing head to toe white walking down Main Street.
Floral trends will include pearls in arrangements especially in wedding decor and prom accessories. A move toward clean, refreshing colors and less vintage tones. Boho will move toward white lace and draped textiles (and draped florals) and away from “antique” tones.
Pantone is a standards company. They already KNOW they saw an increase in purchase of soft white color standards by fashion companies. It’s not a guess.

How to lift a sunflower curse? Grow thistles.
I’ve struggled to grow sunflowers over the last few years. The deer eat them, they fail to germinate or they blow over. My sister-in-law suggested my grandpa was haunting my garden. He hated sunflowers because they spread in his farm fields. But there is one thing he hated even more - thistles!

I’ve got a gorgeous crop of echinops and sunflowers this week so I must not be haunted anymore!
