I’ve avoided making this post. I’m not real sure why, it doesn’t change anything.

We woke up Sunday morning to find that our sweet Macey (black & white Pyrenees/Anatolian) had been hit and killed on our road. Thankfully, Paden found her before the kids did.

We’re all heartbroken. She was supposed to fill the void when Dutch, Paden’s geriatric Aussie mix passes (he’ll be 14 this fall).

She was supposed to raise these feral farm kids with us and help keep an eye on them outside when I can’t be there. She was supposed to sit on the porch with me for many years, getting belly scratches to her heart’s content and all the Macey hugs she could stand. She was supposed to ride along in the van to go pick up the cousins from school for years to come and go on walks and keep watch over the cemetery and look forward to her daily romps with her pal, Jimmy.

We miss her so much already. Our yard and porches just feel…empty. 💔😭

I hate that it had to be her. Poor Kelly has lost 5 BELOVED pets in his 10 years of life — 3 horses, his Emmy cat, and now Macey.

He built her cross with his own little hands and painted in big letters, “Macey, My Dog” on it. I cried buckets.

So if you’re a frequent passer-by at our place, or go to the cemetery often, she’s not here anymore.

I hope she’s sitting on a love couch on a back porch in Heaven. And I hope I get to see her jump off of it and come bounding across the yard at a high lope, with those ears flapping and her big, doggy smile to greet me one day.

Patch the bottle lamb. Springtime on the farm or ranch always means there’s another baby of some sort to care for and love on.

I can’t see sh*t out of this thing!

Mesa made up her own little version of rock-a-bye baby, Bingo style. This girl…she’s so cute!

When God is answering prayers at 4 AM, you absolutely get up, step outside, and go bask in it for a bit! We had next to NO snow this winter so the land has been so dry and thirsty. I hope Nebraska got some, too!

These little ladies will grow up to feed our family for the rest of this year and part of next. Not quite half of them are for our cousin’s family also. They’ll help process and in turn get a farm-raised product for their family as well!

Favorite time of year when working with cattle. First calf of the year from the cow herd is a bull. Normally we calve in May but decided to move the hfrs and some cows up into April this year. Most will still calve in May. It has begun!
