Homeschooling takes many different forms. 🤎
Sometimes it looks like books, worksheets, handwriting practice, and math at the kitchen table.
But sometimes, it looks like getting up early to care for animals, mucking stalls, planting a garden, tapping maple trees, collecting eggs, and learning where our food comes from. 🌱🐄🐓
Sometimes, homeschooling means taking lessons to the farmers market.
It means learning to run a small business, work hard, speak confidently with strangers, answer questions, handle money, count change, and treat every customer with kindness and respect.
Today, one of my kiddos took the lead at the market. They told customers prices, accepted money, gave change, answered questions, and genuinely connected with everyone who stopped at our table. Watching them step up and realize how capable they are made my mama heart smile.
That’s education, too.
You can teach money on a worksheet, or hand your child a $20 bill and let them figure out the change. You can explain entrepreneurship in a book, or let them sell something they helped grow. You can assign responsibility, or give them animals that depend on their care.
Homeschooling, for us, isn’t confined to four walls. It’s in the garden, the barn, the kitchen, the market, the early mornings, and the long workdays.
And sometimes, the best school day is the one where you step back, let your child take the lead, and watch them discover what they can do.
Today was one of those days. 🤎🌱🐄
I’m grateful our children are learning not only what to know, but how to work, serve, communicate, create, and care for something bigger than themselves.
That’s the kind of education I’ll always be grateful for.
