Field Family Sugarhouse of Leverett MA We carry on a 200 year old family tradition of making maple syrup!

We are a very small family farm that, in the spring, makes liquid gold, better known as maple syrup. Our sugarhouse dates back to 1814 and has always been owned and operated by some member of the Field family. Jeff, Jen and their children are the 6th and 7th generation of Fields to make maple syrup here. We are one of the smaller operations in the Massachusetts Maple Producers Association and are grateful to our extended family and friends who help us keep this family tradtion going every year.

Bottling syrup tonight! Funny that I say “canning” syrup…back 70 years ago Jeff’s grandfather, and most sugar makers, packaged their syrup in metal cans. Some looked like little cabins or sugarhouses, some were just rectangle cans with a strap handle and a metal cap on the top. Plastic was not easily available or affordable at the time. Now we try to bottle in mostly glass as it is sustainable, affordable, and reusable. We can easily see the color of the syrup to know what grade it is, so they saves us grading stickers too! ❤️🍁
