CLUCKDATE!!! Our 1st ordered silkie clutch was a couple days late to hatch, but don't fear the 1st is out and it is (jumping up and down as I type) A MOLTED NAKED NECK (showgirl)!!! I knew there was a possibility of naked necks from this breeder when I ordered but OMG the first one??!! We have 2 partridge, 1 buff, and one of Frizz's babies that have externally pipped this morning, and I'm expecting more to follow, so we will do a freshly hatched chick haul introducing all of our new flock members probably tomorrow!

Also... Austyn got to name the first to hatch, so of course this poor baby is "Red Neck" and I know Austyn is still laughing and singing the Blake Shelton song on the way to work.

Side note for my chicken mamas: Please help me understand the red and black skin on this baby. Google can't give me an explanation as to why mottled silkies have both colors and I just want to understand for breeding purposes? This one has a black face, red neck and body, one red toe, the rest black!

Our babies are growing up! Little size comparison of the babies we've hatched over the past 2 months! Hatch date for these chickies were: 11/30, 12/21,1/3, and 1/7! The tiny babies are still living in the house, but the teens and pre-teens have moved outside to the brooder!

LET'S GET CRACKIN'!! This COULD be our biggest hatch yet! We have 2 dozen silkie eggs on heat! 18 of which ordered from an AMAZING breeder down South! ALL 24 of these chicks could vary in color and feather type!

From the ordered ones we could see choclate, grey, buff, splash, partridge, and even molted! Feather types could include traditional silk, showgirl, and even FRIZZLED!! From the 6 I added we could see solid white or splashed. Feather types could also include traditional silk, showgirl or frizzled! If you can't tell frizzles are my FAVORITE!!!

If this hatch has the same success rate as my previous, we will DEFINITELY be selling some chicks soon! I currently have 13 solid white babies in the brooder!! SO EXCITED!!!!!

Also, shout out to Petunia's Patch's newest investor Betsy Ayers (mom) for the new incubator 🤣❤️

Current hatch date is estimated to be January 27th! 🐣🐥

5 days old vs 1 day old! Isn't it wild how fast they grow!?

CLUCKDATE! The two late birdies have hatched and are thriving, this is actually one of them!

Being all cooped up has me getting lots of things done around the house (maybe just watching chickens..). The Petunia's Patch silent partner/main investor even donated a few trail cams to help us spy on the flock (he doesn't know he donated them). Stay tuned for more cluckdates on what's hatching and happening inside the coop!

The thought was there, until the actors went rogue and starting pooping on set... Just another day here on the Patch!

CLUCKDATE: The two eggs we let cook a little longer have internally pipped and could be hatched by tomorrow!! They sure aren't early birds but I guarantee they'll still be cute!

CLUCKDATE... 5/12 have hatched & are the cutest little things!! I went ahead and candled the remaining 3 and 2 are showing signs of life, so we'll continue to let them cook for a few more days!

Surprise surprise! It appears the snowstorm flock will be arriving quicker than anticipated! After candling for the first time in a week- 4 have internally pipped, 4 are following closely behind, and 4 are being sent to the compost. We could have chicks by morning! 🥳

Big news mother cluckers!!! After waiting MONTHS we've finally got 18 of the most beautiful silkie eggs getting shipped to the Patch!! If we can manage to incubate correctly this hatch will offer a rainbow of chicks!! 🐣🐥

Also, we currently have a full incubator and could see a up to a dozen white silkies hatch in the coming days, but we also have a snowstorm on the way!? All I've got to say is those cluckin' power lineman better keep the lights on at Petunia's Patch, because we can't afford a temperature drop this late in incubation!! 😉😂

What's been hatching over at Petunia's Patch? Silkies of course!! We don't mess around with ugly chickens! Just kidding, have you seen my naked necks? 🤣🤣

Between Friday and Sunday, we hatched 4 of the 9 possible eggs. I'm fairly confident 3 are not going to hatch at this point, but I have 2 that look like they still could! Claws crossed!
