There’s no stronger bond than that between a mama and her calf. Today, we honor all the hardworking mothers—on the farm and off—who give their all, day in and day out.

From sunrise feedings to midnight check-ins, your love, grit, and care don’t go unnoticed.

Here’s to the women who nurture, raise, and lead—whether it’s a calf in the pasture or a family at home.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Huffman Livestock.

Congratulations Dr. Clevenger!

Addressing a critical veterinarian shortage, seven Virginia veterinarians have been selected to receive grants that will expand care for livestock, poultry and horses across rural communities:
Dr. Nathaniel Burke - Luray
Dr. James Cassell - Galax
Dr. Keagan Clevenger - Rockbridge and Bath counties
Dr. Sherri Gard – Suffolk
Dr. Travis Gilmer - Scott County
Dr. Mary Tomlinson - Galax
Dr. Suzanne Newcombe – Gretna

These funds will support opening clinics, purchasing equipment, hiring staff and expanding services in underserved areas. With 43 applications received, the program addresses a critical need for large animal veterinary care across the commonwealth.

With forecasted winter weather — depending on the model, 1 inch… or 1,000 inches — coupled with frigid temperatures, we will be closed for cattle take-up this weekend, January 23–25, 2026.

It’s rare for a storm to impact everyone from the far Southwest to the East Coast at once, but this system is expected to affect cattle movement and road conditions across the board. This decision is in the best interest of our producers, customers, drivers, and employees, allowing everyone to stay closer to home and focused on family, animals, and staying safe. And preventing short-term weather disruptions having an influence on cattle values.

In the meantime—enjoy some family time, a bowl of beef stew with a mug of hot chocolate, and maybe a quick sleigh ride.
(Producers—feel free to share your snow photos!)

We appreciate your understanding and support.
Stay warm, stay safe, and we’ll see you next weekend.

And to those who help keep the roads open—hats off to you and sincere thanks. You are truly appreciated!

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Veterans 🇺🇸

In barns, pastures, feed yards, and sale barns across this country — many of our heroes wear boots just like ours.

Today and every day, we honor the veterans who have served our nation with courage, dedication, and sacrifice.

We’re especially proud to work alongside so many veterans — our employees, producers, cattle haulers, feeders, and customers.

Your service, both in uniform and to our industry, continues to strengthen our country and our communities.

Thank you, veterans.

Labor Day Weekend Notice!!

We will be closed this Saturday for local cattle take-up, giving our hardworking employees, cattle haulers, and customers a weekend off to recharge.

Enjoy the long weekend — and fire up the grill for a good steak 🥩or burger 🍔!

We’ll resume normal operations next Saturday, September 6th.
