Locally grown mixed peppers, kale and 2 dozen fresh eggs from one of my market gardening cohort.

So lucky to have these amazing people in my life and it makes it easy to eat local and healthy even when you’re physically challenged due to an injury.

Y’all we still have veggie bags and individual flower bouquets available.

These vegetables and flowers are all grown by local market gardeners who are part of and their market gardener program (including Moi) and we’d love to feel the love for locally grown food so we’ve extended the online shop to 11am.

If you can’t pick up or have them delivered by the delivery window, let me know and I’ll help you out.

Today’s farmers market haul. Some lovely small and one chunky zucchini and three green tiger tomatoes from , a beautiful bag of basil from , some beautiful small beets and some aubergine (eggplant) from and a tomato from a stand whose name I have sadly forgotten (pic.1).

The fat zucchini will be breaded and fried and topped with a thick slice of tomato, a slice of fresh mozzarella and basil with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and slapped between two multigrain round sandwich thins to become a zucchini caprese veggie burger (pic 2 shows ingredients and veg)

The beets, tiger striped tomatoes, eggplant, and some of the big zucchini will be roasted along with some carrots, parsnips, onion and garlic and they’ll be added to pre-madepackage with brown rice, barley, quinoa and lentils along with some chopped Swiss chard, diced dried apricot and topped with a drizzle of a yogurt tahini lemon dressing and some toasted almonds (ingredients in pic 3).

Picture 4 just shows the beauty of the market vegetables as they’re drying after being washed.

Initially I thought I’d do this tonight but I think after the awesome day at the market and the ever present grief I think I may make all that tomorrow night instead.

Y’all this weekend’s weather is looking awfully stormy so for the safety of the Market Gardeners with Seedleaf they have decided we will not be going to market tomorrow.

However, we (the growers) have harvested a lot of really delicious vegetables so if you’d like to support us, please check out the veggie bags we have for sale.

Thank you for your support!

I’ve got a bunch of bunches of purple topped turnips that will be at the tomorrow at Tandy Park. I also have a couple of pints of Row 7 Beauregard snow peas.

But there will be tons of other amazing veggies from my fellow farmers at the Northland Farm so definitely come check out our bountiful and beautiful vegetables!

This is a red amaranth, a volunteer plant in my plot. Red amaranth is edible and is consumed as a green vegetable primarily in Asian cultures. It’s known as callaloo in the West Indies, chawli leaves in India and cow pea leaves in Africa.

Amaranth leaves are nutritionally similar to beets, Swiss chard and spinach but are genetically closer to their wild ancestors and offer a far superior source of carotene iron calcium proteins vitamin C and trace elements.

Amaranth greens may be eaten raw hooked the younger leaves are mild and tender while the more mature plants are slightly fibroid and develop a bitter flavor. You can add the greens to salads and soups or briefly sauté them as you would spinach.

Complementary flavors include bacon, ham, poultry and anchovies. Complementary seasonings include garlic, onion, soy sauce, oregano, dill, mustard and cumin.

I’ll probably harvest the young leaves on Monday that are in my plot and use them somehow in some meal.
