Sunday we processed 33 quarts of sweet corn! Here’s a little snippet of our process, thanks to little farmer 3.0! We freeze our sweet corn as opposed to canning, because it holds its fresh flavor better!

Jack and Zero are twins that were born January 3rd 2025. I was home, anxiously watching their Mama, clearly in labor, from my kitchen window! She calved Jack first in the silo barn field and started cleaning him off. But suddenly she turned and left him! She walked out of that field into a second field and laid down and calved out Zero! As soon as Zero was out, she stood up and walked away😳 And not just a little away, that cow walked down the hill, across the creek and into another field!! I thought surely she couldn’t have a third, and that perhaps she had a uterine tear and was walking off because she was in trouble. I hopped in the truck with the tiny farmer and went to push her back to her babies! While I was able to get her close, she had absolutely no interest in either one! It was frigid, and they were still wet so I threw them both in the truck and took them down to dry and warm in front of the woodstove (yes, inside the house🥰). They both got a good bottle of colostrum from my sweet RubyMoo (rest her little brindle soul) and when they were peppy enough, they got to graduate to a stall out in our heated shop! They were bottle raised by the smallish farmers and are now happy healthy steers!

The tiny farmer is sleeping under the cowboy hat, he was there for moral support 🤣

In an effort to be transparent and open about the good and the not so good side of farming, I’m so sad to share that We had to bury my sweet sweet RubyMoo this morning, just two days after she gave birth to a heifer calf. We lost her to frothy bloat with a gut twist. 💔
She was the best first milk cow a girl could ask for;sweet and patient (mostly all the time) and just a big enough sprinkle of sass to keep things interesting and fun. I absolutely adored this cow❤️💔 in her 5 years here she raised or helped raise about 20 calves. Her beautiful brindle b***y will be hugely missed around the farm💔

Her baby girl now has an adoptive jersey mama and is doing great🥰

We went from photo 1 to photo 2 in less than 40 mins!!I’m a MOOMAW🥰🥰🥰 Good job RubyMoo! Gosh I love this bovine lady❤️❤️

Here’s a little of what’s been going on around the farm!! The garden is producing like crazy, we’ve been harvesting, canning and baking! Sweet RubyMoo is ready to pop any minute (technically due July 1!) and Mama’s been spending time with Crockett and Basil 🥰
Oh and we’ve squeezed in some hay days too!!
