We have a return of Canadian geese making a nest to laying eggs. The falling tree will help to protect it from the horses but too large of an area to place protective fence with water access unless we buy more panels.

Near miss disaster and proof once again horses find ways to get in trouble. Recent long winter snow left horse board of standing in shed eating hay. With their blanket on they pushed through the Hotwire to the larger pasture. The pound was well frozen and snow covered. Thanks to a neighbor calling we might not have known two had fallen through the ice. Panicked we grabbed halters an ran. There they were 15’ from the bank chest deep in a hole just big enough for the two of them. Ice was thick and they were visibly shivering/shaking. With halters we give them a come on and they jumped out struggled a bit to stand on the ice but out. I couldn’t believe the ice didn’t break with two near 1,000lb horses on it. We were so lucky. Just a few cuts we dried them in the garage with a blow dryer and shop vac where Leroy keeps a smal heater.

Points:
Knowing neighbors and looking for out for them in the country is a must.
Expect the unexpected with horses. Always remember possible dangers for humans and animals. Love and thank God daily not just when tragedy strikes.

Now there are 3 babies! One egg left to hatch.
The babies stay super close to their mothers tail as they go for their first swims.
