Let’s go sun! ☀️ It’s Rockbridge B**r & W**e Festival day at Lime Kiln Theater and C.H.E.F.S. will be outside as the B**r Garden sponsor and one of the VIP Pavilion sponsors.

This year is a little bittersweet because it’s the last year you’ll see the C.H.E.F.S. logo at the festival. 🍽️ Don’t worry though, we already know that Chef John has big plans for The Legacy Steak & Wh***ey Tavern next year! 🤫

If you see him out there today, make sure to grab a selfie and send it to us. 📸 He also happens to be the Chair of this year’s festival and we’re putting together a little memento to celebrate C.H.E.F.S. and the festival over the years! 📽️

Drumroll please... 🥁

The Freedom Food Festival steering committee finally regrouped with chefs and non-profit captains last week to announce the winners of the friendly competition. We are pleased to announce that C.H.E.F.S. and Friends of Natural Bridge State Park won the 2026 People's Choice Award!

It has been an honor to partner with FONBSP for this annual event in Downtown Lexington over the past few years, and we are so happy to celebrate this win with them! Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed our multi-state BBQ plate! 🍉

For weeks now, you've been asking.

Today, we're finally ready to share the answer.

Introducing The Legacy Steak & Wh***ey Tavern.

For Chef John Stallard, hospitality has always been about more than what's served at the table. It's about bringing people together, taking care of our community, and creating the kind of experiences that become memories.

Now, after years of serving this community through C.H.E.F.S. Catering Company, he's bringing that same spirit of hospitality to a restaurant of his own.

Over the next year, we'll be transforming the iconic space at 37 South Main from the inside out and bringing a new vision to life - one built around great steaks, exceptional wh***ey, genuine hospitality, and a place where this community can gather for years to come.

There is a lot of work ahead, and we're going to take you behind the scenes for all of it.

The plans. The people. The demolition. The design. The menu. And eventually, the moment we get to open these doors and welcome you inside.

This is The Legacy.

And this is only the beginning.

Some places become part of a community.

This was one of them.

For generations, the Southern Inn was the backdrop for celebrations, conversations, milestones, and memories. We know what this place means to so many people because it means something to us, too.

That's why what's coming next isn't about replacing its story.

It's about writing the next chapter with the same commitment to hospitality, community, and gathering around a great meal.

For years, many of you have hoped to see Chef John bring his vision to a restaurant of his own. We're honored that journey begins here.

We can't wait to share what's next.

We are deeply saddened and shocked at the sudden loss of our beloved Lexington Mayor and friend, Frank Friedman. He was a pillar of our community and this loss will be felt for years to come. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Melissa and the Friedman family.

Frank had an uplifting smile, a magnetic personality and loved to share an inspiring or personal anecdote. We will miss him dearly.

I am honored to announce that as of today, July 1, we have officially assumed ownership of the Southern Inn restaurant. I look forward to carrying on the legacy of this downtown establishment.

Thank you, George and Sue Ann, for all that you have done for our community through the Southern Inn and will continue to do so with Lexington Catering Company.

As our time at the Southern Inn comes to a close this week, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you.

It has been an incredible honor and a privilege to be the owners of the Southern Inn Restaurant for the last 28 years and we are so grateful for you; our community, along with our partners and employees who have been a part of our story. We'll forever cherish the celebrations, the laughter, and the memories made together.

We're thrilled to leave the Southern Inn in good hands, as John Stallard takes the helm tomorrow, and we, like you, look forward to open doors again and an exciting new future for our beloved restaurant.
