Yesterday, National Bourbon Day gave us a reason to raise a glass to America’s only native spirit.

More than sixty years ago, Congress recognized bourbon as a distinctive product of the United States.

Long before that, William Berkele built his own distilling legacy on the land of the old Burnt Tavern in Bryantsville, Kentucky.

And today, Master Distiller Chip Tate draws on decades of craftsmanship and his signature wood-finishing expertise to craft a bourbon unmistakably Burnt Tavern.

The weekend was made for gathering ’round.

Fire on the grill, a Blackberry Smash in hand, and the only company on our minds is the kind gathered around the table.

Fine. Old. Kentucky.

Before Burnt Tavern Bourbon, there was William Berkele.

In the second half of the 19th century, Berkele built a thriving whiskey business on the very ground where the original Burnt Tavern once stood along Kentucky’s legendary Wilderness Road. Long before highways crossed the Bluegrass, travelers, statesmen, merchants, and pioneers stopped here on their journey west.

The tavern survived two fires. The whiskey endured through generations.

Today, we honor that legacy with every bottle of Burnt Tavern Bourbon—a tribute to the people, places, and stories that helped shape the American frontier.

🥃 Gather ’round and share a pour.

When the smoke starts rolling and the fire gets hot, reach for a bourbon that belongs beside the grill.

Double-barreled in slow-toasted oak with notes of vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and just a whisper of smoke.

The perfect companion for steaks over open flame, slow-smoked ribs, and every backyard gathering in between.

Because great bourbon and live fire speak the same language.

On this day in 1845, Cassius Marcellus Clay published the first issue of The True American from Lexington, Kentucky.

An outspoken abolitionist in a slave state, Clay used the newspaper to challenge the status quo and defend both freedom and a free press. The response was swift. Pro-slavery mobs repeatedly targeted his printing operation, eventually forcing him to move the press across the Ohio River to Cincinnati.

But Clay didn’t back down.

Long before he appeared on our label, Cassius Clay was a visitor to the original Burnt Tavern. His story embodies the grit and determination that defined the American frontier—a belief that some principles are worth defending, regardless of the obstacles.

That same spirit is woven into our own history. The original Burnt Tavern survived two devastating fires and endured through generations of change.

Resilience isn’t about avoiding hardship. It’s about what remains after the flames.
