At Howard Cattle Company, you won't see the biggest, most grand EPDs in the Angus breed. While we do use EPDs as a tool, it is just one tool that we use. We also evaluate our cattle for structural soundness, good feet and legs, docility, and the ability to thrive in a forage-based, fescue environment. For the past 11 years we have been evaluating our cattle for the ability to shed hair early in th

e spring. It has been slow, but we are seeing improvement and are also seeing that those cattle that shed early are more productive. We feel that this is an important trait in our hot, humid Alabama summer.
