Some of you might have noticed that Alex hasn’t been at the shop in recent weeks. Knowing how much this community means to him and our family, I wanted to share that he is currently being treated at MGH. After weeks of feeling sick, he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Vasculitis. He spent 2.5 weeks in the ICU where he was intubated and sedated for 13 days while he received treatment and his body worked on healing. We’re happy to share that he is now awake, off the ventilator and starting his road to recovery. It will be a long road, but Alex is getting the best possible care and has all the support from our incredible community. We appreciate your concern and support and are so thankful to the team at Berman’s for stepping up in his absence in more ways than one.

Alex can’t wait to get back to doing what he loves and seeing all of you.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

It is with the utmost appreciation and gratitude that we announce the transfer of ownership of Berman’s Wine from Joel and Bonnie Berman to Alex Bluhm and his family (Molly, Lenni, and Milo). Joel and Bonnie worked their tails off for decades - over 60 years for Joel - to build this shop into the amazing space that it is today. Berman’s is an institution in greater Boston for fine wine and that is due to the passion and dedication that the Berman’s family have put into this shop. We are beyond grateful to them for creating this special place. Don’t worry though, Bonnie and Joel will both still be at the shop talking wine and food so be sure to stop by and say hello.

Alex has been with Berman’s for 15 years, starting as an Assistant Wine Manager and working his way up to General Manager and Wine Director of the shop for the last 12+ years. Alex is honored to be the steward of the amazing legacy that Joel and Bonnie have built and excited to maintain the same core of quality, passion, and service that Berman’s has become synonymous with.

Raise a glass in thanking Joel and Bonnie for all that they have accomplished and to congratulate Alex on this exciting transition. Cheers! 🥂 🍾
