Mind you, we don’t even buy fertilizer at Green Heffa Farms but when I am asked to speak on these national platforms, I do my best to advocate for all small farms.

The Trump administration is proposing another $11B in farmer bailout money. This is in addition to the $12B already doled out to mostly large corporate farms. I encourage small farmers, especially Black- owned, to go after every single cent you can in government support. Make sure your paperwork is in order. If you need help in ensuring your farm is ready, I detail how to be positioned for government support in my new book Black Girl’s Guide to Building a Boutique Farm. I also break down how to position your farm for media opportunities as well.

We were wondering if we were going to pull this off. At the time, we thought it wasn’t enough tickets sold. We had to dip deeper in our pockets than expected since we didn’t have sponsorship support. And who tries to pull off a tea party and a conference during the busiest part of the farming season? And we are in the midst of a serious drought. But to know us is to know that we have such a beautiful community and they came thru. And we were able to pull off a wonderful event that we are proud to say offered something different that the many conferences and gatherings that exist. This year’s W.A.S.H literally poured into everyone who was there. And the people who were meant to be there, were. Thank you to all who helped make this possible. We are proof that a farming business has the power to create change and impact. And don’t ever forget…

Took us 6 years to offer our first 1 lb bulk herb.

We prioritize our own product lines, and bulk actually means lower margins for us. Most of our community buys for personal use. We are now seeing a larger number of herb-based businesses and herbalists who don’t compromise when it comes to quality or values become our customers so we have been growing in a way that makes sense. That’s also why we pulled back from stores while managing waitlists.

This year, we’re increasing even more and we’re planning to offer 5 herbs in 1 lb sizes (some only seasonally) and many others in larger ounce sizes.

And we still don’t compromise our values when we grow nor do we owe.
