We are full of all kinds of emotions this evening⦠thankfulness, exhaustion, worry, and a whole lot of gratitude. ā¤ļø
Sparkle became a first-time momma today, and thankfully my in-laws had been watching her closely for us. They knew pretty quickly that something just wasnāt right. After several long hours of Zach and some amazing neighbors doing everything they could to help deliver this calf with all their strength, it became clear we were running out of options.
At that point, we had to make the difficult call for an emergency c-section.
This is the second c-section weāve experienced on our farm. It is one of those things you pray you never have to go through, but tonight we are deeply thankful it was an option. In situations like this, it truly becomes the difference between life and death.
Farm life is beautiful, but it can also be heartbreaking, emotional, and unpredictable. Tonight reminded us how important experience, quick action, good neighbors, and an amazing vet really are.
We are incredibly thankful to share that both momma and baby made it through surgery. The calf is a big, beautiful bull calf, and Sparkle is resting and recovering tonight. We know the next few days will be important, but right now we are just grateful they are both still here.
Thank you to everyone who jumped in to help, checked on us, prayed, or offered encouragement today. Small farming communities are something special. ā¤ļøš
