From a pine forest to a 500 square foot brewery to a little tasting room to a 4000 square foot production facility with mezzanine sitting area and Biergarten. Over the last 12 years Gneiss has gone from a concept to a place where people have gathered, made friends, enjoyed a unique take on the Maine brewing scene and enjoyed hundreds of different styles of beers. We took great pride in bringing northern New England a taste of Germany. Now we bid the Maine beer scene fair well. This Saturday the 27th will be our last day of operation in our tasting room. We will be open from 12-6 and greatly look forward to seeing all your smiling faces. We couldn’t appreciate you all anymore for all the kind words and love you have expressed at the news of our closing. We want to let everyone know that we share that love with you and always have in our beers and approach to the brewing industry.

Who remembers the early years of playing corn hole by the pigs and sipping Gneiss beers in the garage? It’s been an incredible journey and we can’t thank everyone enough for the support over the last few weeks. We’re looking to keep those vibes going this weekend as we edge ever closer to closing our doors for good.

We will be open today from 12-6 with some fun draft offerings, the remaining bottles of Inselberg and as always, all our Gneiss friends! Hope to see you soon.

Zwickle hopes everyone is doing well with the winter storm of ‘24! We wanted to let everyone know that as of now, Limerick is powerless. We are going to wait and make a call around 9am tomorrow depending on the status of the power. Stay tuned in and we HOPE we can bring you another weekend of our Gneiss farewell. In the meantime, we wish you all a safe and happy Friday. 🍻

Dear Gneiss. Dear, dear, Alyssa, Dustin, Wanda & Dick. You all welcomed me & my micro food biz dreams w/out hesitation. When I reached out, you did not eem wait a beat to see the potential. To appreciate my hustle. And most of all, to not just order up love & understand my plates for yourselves, but, you were unashamed, in fact proud, to have my plant based love served from your gorgeous venue. No angles. No strings. Just. Neighbors. Creatives. Local small business owners. Opening doors. Collaborating. With smiles at that. You have no idea how H U G E that still is for me. ATLien abroad. From away & feeling lost, dismissed. But so determined to push this tiny business forward. Seriously. You all held me all the way down.

I will never forget how perfectly my food cart fit the space. The indoor pop ups that felt like perfect old school pop up kitchen vibes w/ so many smiles. I will never forget the way that people started returning to make sure they could pair your unmatched local brews w/ my plates. Sometimes driving some distances to make that happen🥹 I will never forget when you said, You got Dick to eat T O F U tacos!?! AND he LIKED them😱🤭 I really won’t forget how My Man & I were missing our families. Esp his mother & father. And when I kept hearing you gotta just pop up at a brewery & I found a GERMAN one (if you know, ya know)—was very much our family pointing us to yours. That’s why your bottle that C’s Dad, Skip woulda LOVED will forever hold his mom’s favorite pink carnations. And it will forever be in my prep kitchen.

You mean more to me, to WE than you may know. Your open arms will always feel like warmth when the cold creeps in & I hope to keep feeding your family one way or another as you move into your next chapter.

You are so appreciated. And you will be missed. Ich liebe dich.

Tasting Room is open from 12-6 today. Working through our inventory so we apologize in advance if you don’t see some of your favorites! We are also no longer accepting exchanges of Growlers as our stock on the 64oz jug is limited. We are filling Howlers (32oz version) with no further deposit. We hope to see some of your beautiful shining faces today! 🍻

With Spring underway, we at Gneiss would like to share some news with you. After 10+ years of following a dream of brewing high quality ales and lagers for the people of Maine and New England, Gneiss Brewing Company will be closing. The effective date of closure is still in the air, but we wanted to share this news with you. After the last 10 years of navigating an ever evolving beer world and world in general, our family has decided it is time to move on.

We brewed our first batch of Gneiss Weiss in September of 2013 when we were the 37th license in the state of Maine and there were just over 2,000 breweries nationally. We came onto the scene brewing exclusively wheat beers in an industry, that would see the largest boom in its history, that was focused on the IPA. Over the last 10 years IPAs have dominated draft lists at taprooms and bars alike. The focus of Gneiss in that time was to offer something for everyone and offer people a chance to taste something other than the “juice bombs” or “hoppy hazy” beers.

Ten years later Maine has over 160 brewery licenses and over 9,000 breweries nationally. The market and industry continues to grow and Maine is a beautiful place to brew beer. Over the last 4 years Gneiss has suffered the hardships COVID brought to the hospitality industry followed by supply chain shortages, inflation, and an ever evolving employment scene. We have also dealt with numerous health issues that have left us with little help to operate and grow at the rate we wished we could. For those reasons and more, we have decided that in the best interest to our family, we will be closing Gneiss.

We would like to take a quick moment to thank EVERYONE out there who ever had a Gneiss beer, who ever made Gneiss their “go to after work” beer, Sunday afternoon beer, weekend tap room excursion beer, hiking beer, skiing beer, and all the ways we love beer! A special thanks to all those who helped build, shape, grow, and work for Gneiss. The biggest of thanks to our faithful patrons who frequented our Limerick tasting room and Biergarten over the years and who were so responsible for our success.
