It’s with a heavy heart that we share some big news—after much prayer, thought, and consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sell our farm. 💔

All of our registered KuneKune pigs and registered Nigerian Dwarf goats are now available for sale as we prepare for this next chapter in our lives. This wasn’t an easy choice to make, but several factors have led us here, and we believe this is the right step forward for our family and our future adventures.

Farming and breeding these incredible animals has been such a joy, and we’re so grateful for the memories and experiences they’ve brought into our lives. While this chapter is closing, we hold onto the hope that one day we’ll return to raising and breeding animals again. 🐐🐷

If you or someone you know is interested in adding high-quality, registered KuneKunes or Nigerian Dwarf goats to your herd, please reach out—we’d love to see them go to wonderful homes.

We also have some items still remaining for sale ie goat stands, hoof boss etc

Things that have already spoken for are our flatbed, grain bin and tractor.

Thank you all for your love, encouragement, and support as we take this next step forward. ❤️

Summer's Embrace: Helping Our Nigerian Dwarf Goats Flourish in the Heat

Greetings, fellow goat devotees! This is Kristen Kastle, sending you love and goat bleats from my charming little farmstead. I have a heartwarming tale to share today. So, join me in this journey as we unravel the mystery of our beloved tiny wonders, the Nigerian Dwarf goats, dancing their way through the sun's intense embrace in the heart of summer.

Introduction: The Unique Nature of Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Have you ever held the gaze of a Nigerian dwarf goat? Felt their soul's sparkle mirrored in their twinkling eyes, their petite bodies bounding with untamed zest? These captivating creatures, delightful and charismatic, can steal your heart within a heartbeat. But the summer sun, in all its flaming glory, can singe their spirits. And that's when we, their guardians, step in to weave a tale of comfort and care.

The Heat of Summer: A Challenge for the Little Goats

The Importance of Adequate Shade

Picture this: the sun, ruthless and blistering, scorching our petite four-legged friends. A frightening thought, isn't it? Hence, shade becomes a gentle, loving protector. Barns, trees, or even a canopy of man-made shelter can serve as a sanctuary from the sun's fervent kisses.

Keeping Your Goats Hydrated: More Critical Than Ever

As the sun sizzles overhead, the lifeline that is water cannot be ignored. Recall the dry thirst that claws at your throat after a sojourn under the blazing summer sky. Our tiny goats share the same thirst. Therefore, ensure an unending supply of fresh, revitalizing water at their disposal.

Supplementing Their Diet for Extra Nutrients

Summer is not just about shade and water, though. A sprinkle of dietary magic can transform your goats' experience of the heat. Additional minerals can fortify them against the sun’s fierce onslaught. But remember, moderation is key. Consult a vet for precise proportions.

Creating a Cooling Mud Bath: An Unexpected Delight

Ever seen a pig wallowing in mud and wondered at their blissful ignorance? Mud baths can actually be soothing havens of coolness for animals. A shallow pit, a dash of water, and voila! A playground of refreshment awaits your goats!

Recognizing Heat Stress in Nigerian Dwarf Goats

As their stewards, it's imperative for us to notice the summer's cruel touch on our beloved goats. Rapid panting, restlessness, dwindling appetite - these signs might be as conspicuous as daylight, yet they often go unnoticed.

How to Cool Your Goat Down Quickly

Should your goat display signs of heat stress, prompt action is a must. Usher them to a cooler refuge, offer them a drink, dampen their coat with cool water, and maybe even a fan to hasten their recovery.

The Long-Term Impact of Heat on Your Goats

Remember, continual neglect of heat stress can leave a lasting imprint on the overall well-being of your Nigerian dwarf goats. It can tarnish their fertility, hamper their milk production, and even trim their lifespan.

Conclusion: Making Summer a Joy, Not a Struggle, for Your Nigerian Dwarf Goats

At the end of the day, all we yearn for is to see our goats bask in happiness and health. Summer, though fraught with challenges, can be an episode of joy with a bit of mindful care and abundant love. So let's ready ourselves to turn the tale of summer into a story of thriving and flourishing for our adorable Nigerian dwarf goats.

For the last year and a half we’ve been remodeling our main barn. The last step and decision for us was adding on a functioning milking parlor to accommodate 8 does at a time. Our goal was to have it completed by this fall.

I got impatient and built this temporary parlor this weekend in an old shed.

Word to the wise if you attempt this watch out for wasps. Awakened a nest that has still yet to be found late last night while milking 🤣.

Interested in seeing everyone else’s milking setups. Please share with us pics !!!

How to outsmart goats (while looking like idiots 🤣)

1. Have significant other distract and scream on one side of pen with a bottle to get their attention

2. Insert one wooden plank preferably 10”+

3. Pray they don’t figure out how to jump over 😂

Hope y’all have a wonderful Monday !!!

Excited to finally announce an addition to our herd that we’ve been waiting over 6 months to reveal 😱😱😱

This is Naissance Grace Reylonnie

Her Dam is NC Promisedland Legacy Lonnie.

She’s the maternal sister to Old Mountain Farm Leeloni and SGCH NC Promisedland RC Bonnie.

She is Sired by Old Mountain Farm Tanka (Old Mountain Farm Renga x Old Mountain Farm Peris).

As a 5 yo FF I am really happy we were able to get her bred without the use of any drugs or artificial means. To say it lightly, it was a challenge 🤣.

We’re so grateful she kidded with ease, today marks day one of her Doelings transitioning to bottle.

We were honestly unsure if she would settle and so lucky momma and babies are thriving! We can’t wait to see how this udder develops ❤️

The journey to this point has been a roller coaster.

Not many know but the last 3 years Kristen and I have been actively trying to grow our family.

This time last year we finally got a call to adopt a little girl out of a teen pregnancy in Texas.

After dealing with attorneys, home studies, background checks (in 3 states), federal background checks, doctors appointments and several of our closest friends helping us with letters etc the Mom decided last minute that she wanted to keep the baby.

Honestly we were overjoyed for her and happy that she chose that she wanted to be a mom.

We both felt like it was the end of the road for us for a while.

We did a lot of self reflecting over the holidays and realized maybe this was Gods way of telling us to be grateful and cherish the two beautiful and healthy kids that we already have.

In February Kristen started feeling a sharp shooting pain in her side and was insanely fatigued. She was convinced that she had appendicitis or something worse.

We rushed her to doctors appointments, called everyone that we could to figure out what was going on. Her doctors ran what felt like 100s of blood tests trying to determine exactly what the cause was.

Finally in March one of her doctors thought an ultrasound would be necessary. We got a call the following day congratulating us on the pregnancy. 😂

Baby Boy coming Late October.

Just remember sometimes when it feels like you’re getting 1000 “No’s” in life that the one life changing “Yes” might be just around the corner.

We’re really proud of our girls.

In spite of a hellacious kidding schedule, terrible weather and storms and the amount of girls who came in last minute on transport, we’re proud to say LA is FINALLY over.

The last 4 weeks have been absolutely insane and we can’t wait for the opportunity to do it again.

Yesterday our appraiser spent over 6 hours meticulously going through 18 of our goats. We asked him to be very critical and give us as much feedback as he could, and he delivered.

Although a handful of girls didn’t do as well as what we were hoping for, we had some outstanding victories.

One goat in particular, Old Mountain Farm SuperSonic kept me up for months.

We didn’t want her to be appraised because we were scared she would get a score that was undeserving.

She kidded back in December, dam raised a singleton that wouldn’t take a bottle, and has been in milk ever since.

Her last LA was at 3 years old and she had scored an 84.

We were actually in the process of drying her off when we found out we had been selected for linear appraisal. By the advice of some friends we reluctantly pulled her back into milk. We were scared that she would earn a permanent score that we felt she didn’t deserve.

We were very pleased when our appraiser read off her final score of 89.

Although for some of our goat friends an 89 may not be a massive success, We view this score as a big win for her. She had all the odds stacked against her and still earned a permanent score worth being proud of.

We can’t wait to refine our breeding schedule for next spring and take all the information from yesterday to propel our herd in the show ring.

As the old saying goes: Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

We’re still grateful for the opportunity to be selected and the process has given us actionable, objective data to better prepare and be better goat owners.

Given the worlds circumstances we’re opening up a few more slots for weekly raw milk purchase.

I’ve got far too many Dairy Goats that don’t have an infant on a teat. 😂

If you need a teat for your kid … or some raw milk PM us 🤣🤣🤣

In an effort to make it affordable we are only asking our cost - we refuse to make a profit off of our milk for families in need… Located in Northwest Arkansas ❤️

We have LA in 4 weeks. 😳
We have to pickup 2 goats asap from Maine and Iowa. 🐐

We’re barely above water, but the universe is giving us some type of strength and energy 😂

We spent the day exploring, blocking off and fencing in a new 2 acre paddock for the boys for some rotational grazing.

We’re thankful and blessed to spend these days in sunshine and fresh air with our two legged and four legged kids ❤️
